Looking for an S6 (2.2) Avant

    Hi there
Not S2 related I know but there seems to be a few UrS4 / S6 owners on here.
I am thinking about buying an S6 Avant '96 or '97 preferably Black with Black leather, manual gearbox only.

Anyone know of any available and what kind of money they should be making (seems like there are some out there very overpriced). I'm in Ireland but realise that I'm probably going to have to source one in the UK.

I have been keeping an eye on E-Bay and Autotrader recently. Only reasonabley priced one was on Autotrader - '96 for £3995 but mileage was 185,000.

I haven't actually driven one yet and am coming from a Legacy Turbo. Anyone have any experience of both for comparison purposes?

Expect to pay £5000-6000 for one with 120k miles, Good luck finding one, most of those for sale on Autotrader are Autos.

I looked at a couple of Avants before buying an S6 saloon as the boot is actually bigger on the saloon.. I don't know if you are wanting to haul lots of stuff about in it, but you may find it has a smaller boot than your Subaru..

        Thanks Jason
I really prefer the shape of the Avant. Will be using it to carry some bikes and also as a tow car for my rally car so teh estate is better for this as well.

How has reliability been for you on the S6?

The S6 should make a good tow car, I've used my S2 for towing my motorsport car and apart from the fuel consumption it's very good.

I've also driven the 2.5 non turbo Legacy and it's a good car but the Audi is much better.

My S6 hasn't given me any reliability problems.. the only problem has been the financial outlay on an RS2 turbo, EM, injectors, chipset, springs, shocks, frequent oil changes, autodipping mirror, boost gauge, VAG-COM, Snooper S5-R, Gear knob, mats, RF central locking kit, Stainless steel brake hoses, 17" bolero alloy wheels, samco hoses, Dahlback racing bypass valve, ISV, K&N filter, Xenon HID kit, etc...

            The list goes on.

But you can probably get away with regular servicing and replacing the brake bulbs when they burn out..

So the car is still pretty standard then?
