Oh dear, things just got a bit more complicated.. Yes I thought that F22/G10 was what I needed but - the gauge I have is a 0-10 bar vdo, does this mean i will need a 0-10 bar sender and cannot use an audi 0-5bar one? (I'm installing vdo gauges in my mk1 caddy).

Yup. Those old MKI oil pumps were high pressure/low volume compared to the later ones. I know I had a 150 psi (10 bar equivalent) gauge and 10 bar VDO sender in my old 1980 1.6L Jetta (along with a header, cam, big valve head, weber "Big Throat", etc). I think it hit close to 150 psi on a cold start with 20W50 oil.

I see. Maybe it will be easier to find a 0-5 bar gauge/sender and use that instead of hunting down a much older 10 bar sender (i've seen you can buy a vdo one from vwheritage.com but £41 is a bit steep, and there are plenty of audi 80's in my local breaker..)

Incidentally do any audis use a 0-5 bar sender with a 1.8 bar (high pressure) oil switch instead of 0.3 bar, think this is what i'll need for the caddy as the low pressure switch is totally seperate.

The separate switch is the 1.8 bar one so I suggest you use the same arrangement.

Not on the caddy 0.3bar switch goes into the side of the head and 1.8bar on the oil filter housing (where I would want to measure oil pressure)

You missed my point. If you are using an older e.g. pre-1984 VW engine in your caddy, the oil pump is a HIGH pressure, LOW volume pump. After 1985, they went with LOWer pressure, HIGHer volume oil pumps. As a result, using a 0-5 Bar pressure gauge sender will potentially fail or NOT give you the proper reading when pressures are over 5 bar. And they will be on start up and until the engine is warm.

It's an '88 caddy 1.6 diesel (JK engine code) so should be ok with a 5 bar sender? However as I already have a 10 bar gauge, might try to find a sender from a pre-1984 car. Unless you are going to tell me that this is a bad idea when used with a low pressure high volume pump

You might have told us what engine is in the caddy in your first post. Would have saved a lot of :corey::corey:.

The sender you need is a 035919561A. 0-5Bar/1.8 Bar 2 pin Black, M10x1. Common to lots of older 1988-90 Audis.

                      Good luck.
