You can use the old style C shaped clamps on these heads, a cheaper option if you only need to use it once. A bit more fiddly to use but your arms will ache after doing 20 of them

          possibly sorted now thanks James....

Mcandmar - it took 2 of us using a C version to do the first valve!!...one to hold the clamp and the other to faff about with the collets!!...

Much easier that way than trying to compress the spring while latching the tool closed at the same time

This is what I used before Mike! I don't know where it has gone???

The eBay one from Sutton looks the job as at least you can do the job with the head still on.

If the head is of the car that's the one to have. I've used mine for 4yrs+ with no issues the ones prior to that either didn't get into all the heads or broke. Real quick to use can have all the valves out in minutes. Providing you also have some cyl head stands. Crack loose the retainers on a low tension setting as they lock in with age (only need a gym membership if you don't unlock em first ). And have a magnetic tipped thin tip screwdriver to remove the collets.

sorry Aelred....I thought we had it sussed but as Brian has mentioned his has gone walkies!!....

For information sake, the head is on the bench....and the tool is going to be used mainly for heads in situ...and then the seals can be done as well....

                          Thanks for the advice folks....

                          cheers
