  • Left rear stock caliper wanted

    Hi all

Can anyone help me with supplying me a left rear stock brake caliper? Mine has started to stick every now and then and I want it changed asap. Main stealer wants to charge me £160 +VAT just for the caliper. Bum to that!

Thanks in advance you lovely lovely s2 forum people.

Did your stealer pull that price out of his tombola?

Or was he looking up front ones? They're £165+VAT a side.

I'd do them both mate. If one is worse than the other you may get some wierd car behaviour in an emergency especially when wet!

I bought a rear caliper about 5 months ago and it only cost me £70. I also got it fitted for £20 which was nice
It wasn't an original part and was gold in colour, but it worked fine. I got it from a local motor factors.

PS - it was an exchange item.

Another stealer just quoted me, wait for it, £423 including fitting

@Kenny - where did you get the exchange caliper from?
@Ben - thanks for the part number, I'll try GSF and VAGParts again with that, see if I can't do better than the stealers!

Should I get a pair? Should I replace my pads as well or will it be ok? Disc looks perfectly fine (and it's almost new) I've got EBC Greens on the back at the moment, left one blacker than the right, and I've actually got a set of part-worn EBC Reds still knocking about.

                        Hi!,
Be careful. Usually quattro calipers are diferent to 2WD cars. The handbrake lever springs to mind. Check suitability first.

Just found Mine sticking Yesterday so need to get a pair
Would these part numbers fit a 10v 90Q saloon ?
Or would the 4 ring spares ones be any good ?

I know this is a problem with Rear Calipers on Golfs too, on the Latest Mk4/A3 they are an improved design in Alloy that dont stick.....
Is the Older Golf Mk3/Mk2 design the same as the problematic caliper we have ? and if so could these be substituted for the new Alloy caliper design ?

                          Cheers
                          Dom

Unfortunately, the 4-ring spares caliper for £60 is "not for quattro". Gah. I thought I was on to a real bargain there.

                            What's the difference?

No, I just discovered the same thing, But they do have Reconditioned calipers at £50+Vat for Quattros
Not sure if this is worth doing or not ?

At the moment I have freed them off but Have no Handbrake to use
