Doing it on the floor is a ballache. On a 2 post lift its quite straightforward,i did the one on my s6 last summer in 3 or 4 hours.I have heard of garages quoting upto 700 quid labour to do it

I have the car up on the ramp doing all the back suspension bushes dampers springs and links etc. And have ot almost all back together when I cam accross this. So it looks like I need to remove the rear arms hubs shafts and struts again. Remove exhaust. Remove rear diff subframe. Remove propshaft. Remove diff. Lift rear seat and lift out sender. Then disconnect neck filler. Then drop tank. That sum it up. Anything to watch out for eg fuel pipes and wires etc. Just spent 2 days painting and putting all that back together too...

diff, subframe and exhaust off yes but i left the arms on and just undid the 3 nuts that hold them on and they drop down enough to give you clearance,I left the driveshafts on aswell. Its a good time to replace the handbrake cables if you havnt already.

Have you got any pics of your s4?don't think you have ever posted any(that I have seen at least)

undo the pipes at the sender unit and when the tank is off replace them as they will no doubt be about ****ed.

I have had a couple of pairs of h/brake cables from andrew pages recently for £18ish each,no sure you have them over there though?can't remember the make of them but they look good quality.if you struggle to find any I can send you some

Ok so are the fuel pipes a dealer part? The ones that run up the car are fine but I see a join at about the driver side rear wheel coming from the tank. Is that the parts that you recommend changeing?

My 2 local places euro car parts and german and sweedish cant get the hand brake cables so trying another source. If not you might have another thing to post lol.

                        Cheers

Is the S6 avant fuel tank the same as the tank on a A6 2.6 V6 avant from the same year?
