Wanted : RS2 Gearbox . New, Recon or 2nd hand great condition - Please help :(

    Hiya all,

Well i've got the gearbox out of my RS2 and sent to a gearbox place to get the 1st gear syncro issue looked at.

Turns out its much worse. Bits of metal are flying around in there and tooth damage to a few gears and other things which need replacing.

Long story short, the gearbox people reckon I'd be better off trying to source a replacement RS2 gearbox and use this one for parts at a later stage.

Does anyone know or have something available?

Gutting that I've just seen this posting and it's sold. http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=23232

Please help. I've got an RS2 with no gearbox

    Thanks all

    John

On a side note , is the RS2 gearbox unique to this car or does it feature on a few other models?

    from the gearbox guys

    "Hey John

Main parts to price up would be,

    Centre diff
    Input shaft
    1st and 6th gears
    Front diff side gears.
    Bearings, seals and synchros.

Thats the best place to start.

    Thanks
    Dave"

I found this info on the gearbox as well

I thought an aby or any of the 6 speeds fitted it was just 1 st gear was physically bigger..
But I brought a box to try this with I just never got around to it..

Put an ABY or S4/S6 gearbox instead. Thus you can use the car in the time you procure an RS2 one.

You can use a CGR or a DSY box if you need to while you find an RS2 one.
Maybe SteveRRquattro will put you in touch with the buyer and you can give him a real sob story etc etc

              fingers crossed.

I knew I'd sold it too cheap. Having said that the funds have gone to a good cause which is to finish off my SWB car.

I'll be in touch tomorrow with a price on the secondhand RS2 box + price to recondition it.

Sorry, didn't realise there were any Kiwi's on here, your flags are too similar. I've watched Flight of the Conchords so know the difference!

I'm sure you could get one shipped from Audi Tradition if required. But there are probably more cost effective solutions.

                              hiya, just an update

steve has been absolutely amazing and has found a 2nd hand rs2 box that he's organising to get and ship to me (600 for box and 75 shipping to him). too be honest I never expected this sort of help from the other side of the world and I owe him big time!

my only issue is if I should get it reconditioned or not?

"The gearbox is off a 1995 RS2 car with 122K miles. The good news is that he is the owner of the garage and it was his own personal car and he assures me that there were no issues with the gearbox."

my initial thoughts were yes, I should. it's much cheaper to get it recon'd at your end (650 + VAT) than it would be at my end and as I'm going to the effort of getting one from the UK I may as well get it ship shape and have some piece of mind.

"I contacted a local Company today who quoted £200 + VAT for an inspection + drive shaft seals. If you wanted to have it reconditioned with new bearings and synchro ring for 2nd gear, he said £650 + VAT + maybe more. Here’s the link if you want to speak to them. http://www.gearboxspecialistdoncaster.co.uk/"

but as it's a 2nd gen (95) box then it should be rock solid

I've moved back into the camp of getting it at least checked and going from there.

so thats the update. a bit of flip flopping and long story short, Steve is f'ing awesome and I owe him!!

                              will keep you updated

                              any thoughts or comments appreciated.

                              cheers
