Clio or similar runaround

Looking around at replacements for my Ka, ideally something with air con. Needs to be cheap to run and small, so Clio, Polo, Fiesta, Punto etc. Looking at Clio 1.2/1.4 16V & DCi at the mo. Budget is about £1k, more for something clean and tidy. What have you got?

I scrapped a P reg Polo on saturday morning. 1.4... Wasnt the best but ran well and you could have driven it away lol. Oh well.

you're not wrong.com. I went to look at a B6 A4 1.9 TDI Avant Quattro sport yesterday. The guy was asking top money and when I got there I was shocked at how such a sound vehicle could be treated so badly. It looked like it has been driven through a gorse bush, was 1yr and 10k past cambelt change, Aux belt was flapping about, scratches and even rust (it originated in Poole) Something was wrong with the rear quarter as could not get a finger between tyre and arch on offside but could get 3 fingers inbetween on the other side and the air con didnt work despite being told it did. He looked shocked when I turned down a testdrive ha ha.

Some people must think a prick is going to turn up and just part with cash.

With two on the drive, I strongly suggest a 1.4 Polo is the way to go. Great cars but if you go back as far as a P reg it may rust due to poor paint/primer by the factory, mine has.

I like the polo and Lupo 16Vs but as you say, try finding a non rotten one on a budget.

Focus 2.0 sounds fun but as you surmise, nit quite what m after

Buy a French diesel. Oh hang on, you say you want working Air Con, sorry, my bad ha ha.

Rock and hard place if you ask me. For that money you will get a rotten German motor that works or a tidy French one that doesn't.

It is truly depressing looking for a car. Like you say, so much crud out there (including the people selling them)
