    Audi 80 TDI avant

    Hi guys.
Putting a feeler out for an 80 TDI avant estate in good condition.
I'm looking for a tidy example with a low mileage and service history to prove.
Willing to wait a while for this
I intend to style it like an S2avant and I don't want to start with a sh@tbox.

On a different note ill be busy at work and may not be able to organise collect for the next 7-8 days, but no harm in searching now to see if there's any out there
Im in West London (twickenham) area, but willing to travel for right car.

    No autos.
    No rust buckets.
    No high milers.

    Pm with any offers.

In proper net forum style, here's my car for sale which is not what you asked for..
    Sure, it's worth a try....
Also, it's now a fully legal uk car as you'll see if you read all the posts.

I'm not sure that one will exist any more. You're looking for a minimum of a 17year old diesel estate car with low mileage.

As with S2's, 80 TDI mileage does not matter. A 250k one wich has been looked after will be 100%. I'd go looking at condition rather than mileage, I think if you dont you are in for a (very) long wait and as time goes on it will get less and less likely to find what you're looking for.

Saloons tend to have a lower mileage than estates form what I found when I was looking for one. I wanted a saloon as I prefer the shape and have an S2 avant already. Mine has 140k on it which I would say is a very low mileage for one. My dad has has an avant for about 8 years, way over 200k on it and still strong. I know of them with up to 350k and going well.

              , very true indeed.
TBO, even finding an avant tdi in any condition is getting tricky at this stage

I may have found a white one with about 140k on it with a service history and generally good condition except for one thing.
He says the engine hunts on idle and he has unplugged a speed sensor from the fuel pump to stop this???
Is that common, or is it more expense than its worth?

Yep, I'm afraid it is common. It's caused by dirt and swarf build up on the magnets at the top of the pump. Mine did it when I got it. There's a guy on here who I sent the top of my pump to and he cleaned it out. If you disconnect the speedo (possibly whatever he's disconnected will have the same effect) it will stop hunting, however this will give a harsher throttle response. You may also find that it 'chugs' a bit when laboured in higher gears too as that's caused by the same fault (not with speedo disconnected).

It cost me £70 plus postage to have mine sorted, you could do it yourself too of course if you know what you're doing. That being said, My Dad's one does this and has done for the last 60k, he's got used to it and it doesnt bother him, it doesnt seem to do the car any harm.

                  Thanks for that
That's not to expensive to get sorted.
I might make an offer on the car that reflects the cost of repairing the pump.
                  Thanks again mate

I'd check that it can be done before you do a deal. If you refit yourself you'll need vagcom to set it up. Not many people will even try to repair it and most garages\diesel specialists will tell you that you need a new pump. This is why there are so many running like that.

Thanks for all the helpful info
I'm going for a look at one tomorrow.
One owner with massive service history. Only problem with the car is with the fuel pump idle, which I'm sure will do for a while until I get a chance to sort it out.
                        I'll keep ye posted
