The top part which unbolts. My understanding is that they are at the top of a cam which rotates to increase\decrease IQ. That's your throttle effectively, so it makes sense that if it's 'sticky' that your running will be a bit lumpy. I assume by disconnecting the speedo that the ecu runs a default on the IQ as it can't be calculated correctly with no speed input. Hence, the harsh throttle response when you do.

I could be wrong but this is how I make sense of it.

BTW, if you want to test if this is wrong with your car, hook up vagcom and map the IQ, at Idle you will find it's all over the place.

        Ok, just curious.

I changed the pump head seal, IQ seal, top cover seal and end plug seal with the pump in situ in the car. If you just need to get to the IQ adjuster thing is a dawdle, just need vagcom to set it up again, though the car ran on the scribe marks. If you need to strip the pump fully it has to come off the car.

Seal kit is less than £20.
