Matey. I had the same thing last month. Someone on here suggested I but the new leather that goes over the top from ebay for £7. There was one for sale for £30 part worn. But that's too much for an old gear knob.

Anyway mine looks like this now the new leather is fitted. Took about 10 minutes to do and get it right. No glue used as there is a plastic clip at the bottom to hold the leather in place and the plastic top with the numbers on holds the top.



You need to buy this one. Search for Audi a8 black leather gear knob. It says it's for a 5 speed but fitted no issues and look perfect.

Did you not fancy replacing the leather as above mate only cost £7 and was a really good finish. There was someone selling one second hand on here that replied to my original post but wanted £30 plus postage which I think is too much for a second hand item. Only other response I had was suggesting what I have suggested to you which is why I tried it as was very pleased with results
