    An RS2...

Hello good people of the S2 Forum, this is my first post here so allow me to introduce myself. My name is Charlie and I am a very good friend of Kit (K Simmonds), he lives a couple of miles away from me and we've been friends most of our adult lives. For the last few years he's been tinkering away in his garage playing around fixing up an S2 with some enthusiasm to RS2 spec, as many of you probably already know.

Well he took me out in it for the first time not long ago and I was quite taken by it's quite breath taking power, and that was with a slipping clutch. We went to ADI yesterday and it's gotten worse which is unfortunate. Anyway to get to the point, after some discussion with him I've decided to set my heart on acquiring an official, real deal RS2 as they are apparently unlikely to lose their value provided they're kept in good nick and looked after. I'm prepared to pay good money for a good example which I would keep for summer use and shows etc.

At the risk of getting flamed for being a 'noob' if any of you are able to offer me some hints on what to look out for and indeed where to find one (RHD) I would be most grateful.

    Thanks,

    Charlie

Are you after an RS2 which hasn't been upgraded and kept stock or you looking for something which has been upgraded?

Also what colour you got your eyes on?? [emoji2]

          Hi Charlie

Don't worry about being a "noob". No-one gets flamed on this forum unless they are being a cöck.
You're in the right place for info and help and you are very lucky to have Kit nearby who will be able to help you through getting the right car. He's probably already told you a less cared for specimen will cost you £10k or more to put right.

Buy wisely and you will have an awesome machine

I'd say this once you have found one. Take it to a place they know what they are doing and do everything that needs doing once. Otherwise you will be back and forth to the garage until it gets sorted.

Audi tradition from Germany will be your best friend if you want to keep everything stock to maintain the value.

Thanks guys! Yes, that's the idea, to keep it stock more or less and maintain it's value, light upgrades and a remap aren't out of the question...

Welcome. A well mapped RS2 is a very fast car and in the real world on the roads, not much is going to touch it.

Good luck finding one. They are rare as rocking horse doo doo but when you find the right one, you will know it. Good ones lately have been advertised for well in excess of £15k but it is the original Audi RS car and many think it will continue to increase in value (me included)

Yes Kit tells me the same thing, prepare to have deep pockets for a tidy machine, but it's highly unlikely to depreciate, on the contrary, it's likely to make a good investment.

I was so impressed when he overtook a couple of cars I just had to have one!

Ha ha, they are quick cars. I have just got back in from a blast in my "tweaked" S2 Coupe. 50miles of backroad enjoyment is my fave way to spend Autumnal sundays. Today I made a mockery of a Jag XKR,a porsche boxter and a couple of scoobies. Couldn't find anything else that was approaching the same capability apart from a BMW 335d (I suspect mapped) that gave a fairly good account of itself. They are deceptively quick cars.

Funnily enough I was going to get a 335d as I presently have a 330Ci 2005, and yeah, the specs on a 335d are impressive to say the least and when remapped have epic amounts of torque! But whilst the mileage may be better, it's value isn't likely to rise...

Keep an eye out on piston heads, there's probably a new one every month or so that pops up. You'll either pick one up relatively cheap but need to spend thousands on it at some point, or spend 15k+ for something where it's all sorted and just maintain.

I ended up going down the 'cheap and sort it route' and whilst its costing me a fortune to sort it out (and its still on axle stands on my drive) it ran almost fault-free for a couple of years as a daily driver and only a few things needed to be done before I started pulling it apart.

The new 335d is epic, I have one, it's as quick as a remapped RS2 with it's 8-speed auto box effortlessly, yet does 45mpg on a run! It's a worthy companion but certainly not a replacement to the RS2.
