    ABY Alternator

    Evening all!

My no-show at ADI was down to my alternator deciding to retire on the drive to Combe on Saturday morning.... So, I'm looking for a decent working ABY alternator to use as a spare whilst mine is being 'made good' and to keep as a spare. What have you got?

    Cheers

Russ, you may want to specify 90A or 120A. (120 has the finned open cage style body)

P.S. pm me if you need any further detailing tips....

Nice one Steve, wasn't aware there were two types. Pretty sure it's 90a going on your description of the 120a, will confirm tomorrow what type I need. How did you get on in the comp on Saturday by the way? Your car was looking superb as usual. I'll pm you with my detailing queries :-)

Have you checked the voltage regulator/brushes?

I've had two fail on me because of that one innocuous part before.

We tested the output with a voltage meter and that's it so far. I suppose if i'm going to get it refurbed then getting a new regulator isn't going to be a waste of time or money. Just need to check what alternator I have first. Didn't get chance last night but it's a non AC car so my money is on it being a 90a.

Mine's an ex-AC Car, so maybe I'll have Chris's one and you can have mine rebuilt or borrow mine and have yours done...

                            Some Pics

This is a pic of my alternator, there's nothing stamped or stickered to indicate if it's a 90a or 120a though... Can anyone tell from the pics which type I have? It's fitted with a 4 groove pulley.

Looks like a 90a to me. The 120a seems to have been used on AC models. The casing is a quite common, e.g. you can use one from a 3B or 100/C4, just change the pulley
The 120a unit is a couple of KGs heavier
