7A, 3B etc (or similar) high out put alternator

I'm looking to upgrade the alternator on my 7A from 90 amp.

I believe that early 3B engines used the same setup??

Anyone got a higher amp output alternator that will fit a 7A?

    Thanks

Hmmm, I've seen suggestions that it might but I'd have the change the pulley.

Any pics, what do you want for it?

2.5 TDI AEL unit and AAN unit are similar in the mounting department.
Can't fit an AAN unit on a 7A alternator bracket.

            Thanks.

Having seen the pics, I can agree... it won't fit a 7A.

AAN alternator is the same as ABY but with a different pulley. You can swap pulleys

Right but ABY Housing will not bolt onto the 7A alternator bracket. I have 046903015F alternator (AEL/AAN) w/ 6 rib serpentine pulley and tried it on this bracket on the 7A motor. No go...I mean it could go with some machining but aside from that it would not work.
Maybe I have the wrong bracket?

Yup, that's the same alternator I'm using. I got a brand new OEM one in a freak eBay bargain. Fits right on, IIRC all I had to do was move one of the adjuster sleeves a couple of mm and swap pulleys.

Just did this. You also need to space out your v-belt pulley since you no longer have the external cooling blades. I shaved the bracket down about 5mm and it lined up with the AAN pulley.

A6 C4 with 4.2 has a 150amp unit and fits the S2 bracket BTDT. All you need to do is change over the pulley. That is all. Hope this helps
