Bits from an old pair of door cards

I was going to buy a set of door cards from Alan but the courier costs to Finland are rather mental (a lot more than when I've previously sent all kinds of huge packages to Finland). So I dug out a pair of front door cards that I have to inspect them. They are generally OK, apart from a few tabs missing where some maniac must have torn them from the doors.

Sooo... If anyone is planning to throw out a pair of front door cards could I ask you to consider chopping off the hanging tabs from the back, as close as possible to the flat of the door cards?

You can see here where a couple have been have ripped off and a couple are totally gone.

My plan is to epoxy the **** out of them and see if they hold

I could have a look in the scrap yard, See if there is one braking and I'm not one for glue's ect but maybe try using Q Bond it's very good and I was surprised. Hopefully you can get some or I could post you some if I can get the plastic lugs you need. Regards Lynn.

That's incredibly decent of you mate but don't go to a lot of bother, really. If someone has an old pair of door cards they are going to chuck out then it would be good of them to chop the tabs off, but if you're in a scrap yard you'd have to get the handles off, get the door cards off and then chop the tabs off before the scrappie staff come over and ask what the hell you're doing
I'm also thinking about making replacement tabs from aluminium or something, so I could fold out a bit to have extra surface area glued to the door card. Or maybe try to get a couple of small self-tappers in?
Or... I can just try to find new door cards in Finland and just accept that I will probably need to bend over and pay a silly price

      cheers

I bought a bracket similar to this worked out at the perfect size screwed to door card using a self tapping screw through what's left of the door card bracket.

Good thinking. That could be handy for the parts where I still have a chunk of the plastic tab/bracket left. For the places where there's nothing left I will need a full "U" shape (as opposed to just an "L" shape). I should definitely go and rummage around in a local hardware shop to see if there's something that will do the job.
I've found one pair of door cards that might be a viable purchase if this doesn't work out. Just seems a shame to throw away a pair of leather door cards that are otherwise OK. and I'd also rather not buy another pair if I really don't have to

You could also have a look at campervans T4's. It just dawned on me that the door cards fit in the same way. You may find them easier to find. If you want the offer is still there to go to the scrap yard fella. Good luck kind regards Lynn

Thanks mate. I really appreciate the offer. The problem is Finland is that I can't stroll through a scrapyard and take bits off myself. Well, the one in my town anyway. I have to go and ask for a specific part, they check and give me a price, then take it off themselves. That's if I'm stupid enough to pay the crazy prices they ask.. which I'm not. I really need a holiday back home, where I can see my family and spend at least a day going round a few scrappies. ha! I know that sounds ridiculous but I actually miss it, and the banter haggling over prices

I'll look again and see if I can either use some kind of U shaped metal fixings or make something instead. If you happen to be in a scrapyard and taking off a pair of doorcards then keep me in mind, but otherwise please don't go to any trouble (as much as I appreciate your offer)
