what would your opinions be on standard ecu vs standalone?

as i'm rebuilding the engine in my s2 soon i was wondering if the stock ecu can be mapped easily enough if the engine will be running 400bhp or is a standalone system more suited for this?

the only experience i have had of aftermarket ecu's is the emerald m3d, i have this in my mk2 golf 1.8t which has been running spot on for the past 2 years.

any advice woud be much apriciated

Stick with the standard at 400bhp, it will be so much more refined. And a remap is cheeper than a new stand alone

thanks i was hoping that the standard ecu would do the job, i just want to plan ahead before i order some parts.

Emerald brilliant system had one on the Volvo. Doesn't work with the S2 ABY though well not until the new version in 18months.

For 400 bhp just get it mapped at MRC
