  • New Forum Area

The purpose of this area is to collect the growing posts and interest in the various aftermarket engine management systems that are on the open marketplace. The prices and capabilities of these seem to vary quite a lot. It is hoped this area will be a help for those brave enough to venture into this quite specialised area.

The main systems I know of at the moment are as follows (in no particular order) -

    MOTEC
    034
    VEMS
Emerald (Single coil apps only for the time being)

If necessary we can split this area into sub-forums on each system, but that shouldnt be necessary for a good long time.

I don#t know too much about the mechanics and ease of mapping etc, but systems to add that I know of are:

    Pectel-

Life Racing F88 - not much info available with either of these systems, but the Life Racing system has been developed by the same guys as the Pectel system. Not much info available on the net.

KMS - A Dutch company that now make systems suitable to the IL5 Audi engine.

Tatech - System developed by Jyrki - Repo

        Dont forget Nira i3.

Almost every swede is running that system.

Very good job Paul. Think this might be of use to alot of us. You might also add the motronic as one point also, as many people dont change to an aftermarket managment with high power engines.

The point of this area is to share aftermarket info as there is so little open info about the Motronic way of things. I know so much... The number of homefried cars running around this forum is testiment to that, but I don't know as much as MRC, Automark and a few other gurus in EU.

Any really good info on Motronic costs *A LOT* of money and I can't ever see it coming into the open. Mr Bosch looks after that info very closely. That is essentially why aftermarket engine mgmt systems exist - giving users with custom tuning needs the hardware platform and software environment to create their own configs.

Paul, dont forget DTA, and with the manufacturers being in the UK (salford) means the support is not far away.

Anyway, there's no science to aftermarkets ecu's the, main problem being the ignition system and the crank sensors but the wiring is the same on most ecu`s.

But this forum area should help a lot of people with this info, and maybe share a few maps or two. Afterall i'm running on a (forum members) borrowd map until i manage to get the car on the rollers

just as important i think is to know which mapping specialists are good with which hardware, a lot of places as we know claim to be mapping specialists and really don't know what they're doing on these cars

this will be a interesting section.
i would think there are many members like myself that are starting to take a interest in engine mapping and just don't know enought about it yet. this would be a great place for people to share there methods in mapping or how each systems works.and how to go about gaining the info and confidence in selecting the wright package for there needs.
i looking forward to see how well these works out

Hmm I personally wouldn't want the section to become clogged with basic Homefries questions like how much bhp etc etc as there are a lot of threads covering homefries information already.

The section is for more information around the aftermarket ECU's available maybe even sharing basic maps of VEMS, DTA etc.

Good idea, i'm interested in the emerald ecu and finding out a bit more about it as I know its being designed to go on one of the owners ur quattros, I would like to keep the coil for mine (personal preference) so this will be a good help.

Emerald ECU can't be used on I5 engine in it's present form.

S2central spoke to David Walker and until the new version is released in abotu 12-18 months it's a none go-er
