  • 115 R coil or ?

Is it possible to drive 115 R coils, with vems v3. And would the coils be good for 500 hp.
If anybody have an idea for a better set up, please let me know

115R coils are very old design. I wouldn't use them. They don't like heat. Dwell kills them.

I can't see why VEMS can't drive them. If there is a coil dwell option, adjust to 2 milliseconds, as per Dmitri's recommendations.

If you are seriously going 500 hp and not just dreaming, I would go do LS2 coils or 034's HO coils. Both have the coils mounted OFF the plugs, connected by spark plug wires and use more robust coils than the little 115 series coil packs.

i have personally used 115r's for >700 AWHP and 40+ psi without a problem, 4cyl even, drag car only.

i tried the FSI coils once, and blew a coil on the dyno right when it was getting fun shooting for 700. popped in the 115's back in and banged out >730 without issue.

i now run a Bosch Motorsports coil and CDI. i do not ever want to blow a coil on a drag run, it would not be good.

but over here i have run those coils since 2006 without issues.

I wonder how drag-racing duty compares to daily driver duty.
