Do have a question perhaps you know the answer. I've read that the RS4 EGT modules can only monitor a small operating window from 800ish -1000ish degrees since that's the area for the controller to react, while the RS6 modules read full range from -40 to 1100 degrees. Can you confirm? Do you know why they coded it this way?

For the later RS models the need to run lean is mostly due to emissions, VW FSI on Euro4 spec run up to 4 different operating modes in order to reach the desired NOx level set by legislation. Page 13: http://www.volkspage.net/technik/ssp/ssp/SSP_322.pdf

Stuff is only getting worse with EGAS. Your feedback will be translated and dictated by ECU, so abrupt throttling will be filtered to give a smoother fueling to keep emissions and temperature deviations low. Engine response is no longer mechanically limited but mapped by the ECU.
Pro: One can calibrate the EGAS pos in idle to make antilag https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3sxtQwUMkE
You can run rs6 egt's with a code change to the RS4 ecu nice wiki page here http://s4wiki.com/wiki/Tuning#ME7_Documentation for reference only

Is the lean burn mode on RS4's and RS6's limited to part loads only or are they running lean burn with full loads too?

Do any of the ecu mappers on here use an egt gauge or does It tell you nothing that a wideband an set of knock headphones cant.

Any load, until temps hit 970C

You can get a wery long way by using a wideband sensor and a set of knock headphones, i have a egt gauge also installed just for my personal awarness.

Watch out with using k-type thermocouples for EGT measurements pre turbine. Skip the 1mm and take the 3mm. Let the tip protrude no more than 1/3 of the diameter and 10mm or less. I would suggest to remove them after tuning because if they fail (due to vibrations/pulsation) it'll kill the turbine wheel.

If E85 is used as fuel EGT should not be an issue, max temp will be rougly 5-10% lower for same lambda.
