    Help with 345mm upgrade.

Hi, too help take away my bumper blues, towards the end of year i fancy have a bit more brake porn under the 18" alloys.

    Questions:

    1) Will the 345mm S8 disk work with the 996 Monoblocks with machnie work?

    2) Can anybody supply caliper brakets for such a monster or provide drawings?

    3) I know this has been done before so has anybody got any pics of this setup on their car?

    Thanks

Buy two sets of discs and I'll have the other set
    Does that help?
The brackets will need to be +11.5mm larger on the caliper mounting face than the RS2 bracket, and the same dimension (+0mm) the other way if the hat height of the 345mm S8 disc is the same as the 323mm / 314mm disc.
How much meat is on the Seat Bracket? This could be an option.

Hmm just remember something, Alistair C took 4.5mm of the Porsche Monoblock mounting points.

      So i'd need 11.5 + 4.5 = 16mm ?

I'll have to have a chat with someone, another reason for me doing this is i dont have access to machining tools, the Disks on my car have been machined by 3.5mm on the radius, which if my maths is correct takes them from 314 to 307mm.

I really should have paid attention when i bought the car

Question remains though will 345mm discs work with 996 Monoblocks?

hi jamo, i found these 323mm crossdrilled discs i think they look real hardcore!
i've emailed them about the 345mm i'm still waiting for a reply ,
i think the 345mm discs would be a bit heavy but bigger is better
        sometimes.

IIRC the 996 carrera caliper is ok for max disk size of 330mm. The 993 TT or the bigger ( red) calipers are ok.

The Porsche cayenne calipers will work with the RS2 brackets I bet.

I have seen it on an Audi web site on an A4.

Well, if you want i can supply some custom brackets, if you`ve got some drawings thats no problem. Let me know if i can help.
I dont know if the 996 monoblock caliper swallows 345mm, but i think they won`t actually.

                Cheers,

I don't think the cayenne calipers would work. The RS2 brackets are set up to accept radial calipers (where the mounting bolts aim parallel to the rotor), and cayenne calipers are axial calipers (wherein the caliper mounting bolts aim towards the back of the rotor).

                      What discs and what calipers?

Now, taking a 345mm disc down to 322 - how much friction area is left? Anyone know the dimensions of this disc? I mean, it's probably made for a bigger caliper so maybe it can be taken down to 322 - it is thick and that is what I'm after. I want a cheap 32mm thick disc that is 322mm in dia.

Buy the porsche disc and have it re-drilled.
The GT3 2002 porsche disc has a hat height of around 60mm.

Is that possible? I mean, there is quite a bit of difference between 5-130 and 5-112 pattern - it's 9mm in radius - can the Porsche discs take that? And center hole size? So there is no "cheap"-ish disc around, is there??

Mercedes M-class discs have 32mm thickness doubt if they're cheap though. Reasonable hat height with them.
The Passat W8 has 32mm thick discs but the hat height is too small I think.

                              Thread hijack alert!

This has been covered before and i didn't realise, Corey had the same Porsche Calipers as i have.

So would need to buy and machine them down from 345 to 340 and then get the same brackets +4.5 mm as thats whats been taken off my Caliper mounting.

Do you think Corey would supply the technical diagram to those brackets?
