Its been a while but finally.......brakes

Finally managed to get all the right bits in one location......

So its the 'normal' 996 upgrade:

996/Boxster S calipers in black for stealth
Brackets thanks to Bry (Seat ones machined for a 323mm disc)
    A8 Brembo 323mm x 30mm discs
    Ferodo DS2500 pads
    RS2 hardlines
    New Flexi-lines

I'll post some more pics on my site soonish but in the meantime, heres a couple:

Looks good - that looks like a top combo. So what was the final bill?

Oh, and with these hardlines - anyone know if you can change the disks without removing the brakeline from the caliper?

I wouldn't. You would work them and they would go brittle, eventually.
You could slacken them off, so that you can move them out fo the way with the minimum of fluid loss, but if the discs are shot then bleed the system at the same time. That fluid down the bottom of the pipes has done some work for you

Nice one David. I trust you sorted the brake pipe in the end.

i love them, finally something that fills out the 18's a bit more.... They definately have power, but they still need a good bleed again I think as the pedal feels a little spongy even after spending an age doing it this morning. The discs also have a protective layer on them so until I am through that they wont be confidence inspiring but hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to give them a few miles of use...

I guess you could unbolt the metal collar which supports the hardline to flexi then take the caliper bolts off allowing u to swing the whole unit away from the disc. Having said that Bry is probably right that u might as well change the fluid when u do the disc swap....

                    Costs:

                    calipers £250
                    Discs £90
                    Pads £150
                    Brackets £65
Fluid (Castrol SRF) £14 for 2 litres
                    Hardlines and flexi-lines £41
                    Total £610

I could have saved a little by getting some stuff from vagparts but i needed some items really quickly in the end and so next day through the dealer was the only way. those prices also include delivery (calipers, pads and brackets) so i guess you could make it easily less than £600 if u removed that.

Oh and just to confirm u can just 'push' the pad carrier pins back through the calipers, u will need a big vice, a socket and something to protect the caliper. Here's a picture of how they look when its done - wheel clearance is not an issue as u can see.....

Mine took loads of bleeding. They need doing again really, as they're still a little spongy, but not alot. So far I've put about 3 litres through the system.

How long did you spend polishing the Calipers?
I think you should have a caliper polishing competition with T2Andy!

oh no, thats how they arrived with me

I'm a sad bu*ger....when it comes to taking off or putting on bits - they have to be clean. I worked with a touring car team for a year and when i saw how clean that engine was i was sure that I needed to keep mine as clean as possible too

No worries Clean is nice. As long as one isn affraid to use the car cause it will get dirty theres nothing wrong with it being clean and well looked after.
