Fitting Front S2 caliper in the rear?

    Hey.
    Had a thought.

When i put on 996 monoblocks at the front with A8 disks. I will have a set of front calipers and a set of disks over. How hard would it be to put them in place of the rear brake setup? As i see it theese are the problems involved. Please fill in if im wrong.

    1. Make custom braket to fit calipers at the rear.
    2. Find some way to solve the handbrake issue.

Im guessing i would have to make upp custom braided brake hoses for the front caliper in the rear.

I think i saw a handbrake in this thread.

I pressume that what WabTheKing has is a handbrake caliper?
Does anyone happen to know where i can get me one of thoose?

Is there any other issues that im not seeing? "should" be a pretty straight forward swap after the brakets have been manufactured.

    Bring on the ideas guys.

you can use hydrolic handbrake so no need to worry about cables . only problem is the mot you are not allowed to use it for road track only if i'm right .

Yea im also abit curious about what happens to the ABS when running with a hydrolic hand brake. Checked with Svensk bilprovning here in sweden (the place that does mot)
You are required to have the handbrake on 2 wheels for it to pass so it seems that if you want to go the handbrake caliper route then you need 2 of thoose.

The reason for me to use the front caliper in teh first place was to get a reasonbably cheap solution. If im required to redo half the brake system to get a hydrolic hand brake it dosent seem to be worth it anymore. I must admit that it seems to be trhe best way though. The other idea is ofcourse to go for the S8 rear calipers and then S8 rear disks. But then we are into abit of cash again.

How about the porsche 996 rear caliper can that work with a8 rear discs? Any1 done any research on the matter?

Ihave come to the conclusion that it isnt worth the MOT problems and such that is associated with the hydrolic hand brake approach.

Lookign for stand alone handbrake calipers now

Do tell if you know where to buy them.

willwood`s will take 20mm thick discs..

i`m rebuilding the handbrake to hydraulic on my RS2 now using rear calipers from porsche cayenne. also have another cayenne caliper for the brake. use cayenne discs now (330mmx28mm) so the original handbrake system didnt fit anylonger..

its the front brakes that stop the car really all the weight transfers to the front when you brake so get yourself some top brakes for the front and half decent for the back .and retain the handbrake system.

... The other option is to use Citroen Xantia front calipers in concunction with the S8 rear discs at the back. The calipers are reasonably large, and the stock Citroen discs are about 270mm. These calipers have the handbrake mechanism, as the Xantia handbrake acts on the front wheels.

Yea im looking at the wilwood caliper as an option. Apparently its not impossible to space them out abit so they fit the stock S2 front disc

hmmm that might be an option if i cant find a suitable handbrake caliper.
