    Repainting RS2 Calipers

Owing to the onset of the festive season i have decided that is it at last time to repaint my calipers. I hope to produce a how to guide for all to browse .. . but before i start thought i would just run past the bits and pieces required. I've done loads of reading on this and there seem a few options i would appreciate opinions on.

1-Apart from lots of brake cleaner, what is the best way of cleaning down the caliper ready for painting? Some people say a brass brush on a dremel, other wet and dry sand paper??
    2-What layers to put on
    - Primer ? i know some have used hammerite metal primer for this, will it take the heat and is it necessary?
    - Red Paint - this can be bought from halfords by the tin or type-911 do the 'original' paint, apart from the huge price difference does anyone know if these differ in colour at all? I have heard rumours of spray paint on american sites, that would be great.
    - Lacquer, to use or not to use (post decal i'm guessing) and what to use?
    - Decals, guy on ebay selling them v. type-911, anyone know if there is any difference or any recommendations?

So far the list of things i believe i need are
    - Brake bleeding tube
    - ATE Super blue 2 ltr
    - Primer?
    - Red Paint
    - Lacquer ?
    - Decals
    - Brake Cleaner
    - Brass brush
    - Brushes for primer/paint/lacquer
    - Tools to remove caliper and brake lines
    - 1 x willling volunteer to pump brake pedal

Thoughts/comments welcome like i said will start posting picture etc when i start and this should help others in the future

    Cheers,Rich

Although I have only done it once, If I were going to do it properly, I would have them powder coated. It is by far and away the best finish. I am always unconfortable hand painting things like brakes that get sooo hot.

The only time I did do it i used one of the special brake painting kits from Halfords with the brake cleaner and paint included. It was okay on normal cast calipers. Don't know what it would look like on Porsche brakes though...

    Cheers,

    Steve.

If you want another option, I have a pair of brand new standard RS2 front calipers, in Audi boxes.

That wasn't me that was Pete who had his callipers re-sprayed. I went for the more expensive route and bought new rear callipers.
I haven't fitted them yet, but when I do I am going to refurb the old rear callipers & sell them on. I have the repair kit for the sliders, a can of OE Porsche Guards Red paint, new stickers & some clear laquer - just waiting for better weather. My front calllipers are only 4 months old from when I did the big red upgrade.
