    High-pitch squeel from the front!

Just wondering if anyone can throw out some ideas as to where my squeal could be coming from!! it's high-pitched, coming from the front - I think the right but not 100%

My brakes have just started to squeal under light/mid braking; running 996/Textar's and abouts to change the pads out as they're near the end of their life... however, now I'm constantly getting a similar-sounding squeal that dissapears below about 5mph - don't think it's a dodgy caliper as there is no extra friction when off the brakes; I thought possibly a bearing but wouldn't that be more or a grinding noise?

Any adivise apprecaited, if I gotat take it into a garage then i'd at least like to have an idea what it could be to avoid being raped - perhaps I'll take it in to a garage to get the pads fitted this week, and have it checked at the time... would my local porsche dealer rape me for the pads btw?

    cheers

Don't go to Porsche for the pads, genuine textar pads from Pete at quattro Corner are £55.00.
Do you still have the dust shields fitted on the strut? If so check that they are not rubbing on the disc.
Why pay someone to change the pads, it couldn't be simpler on the mono's.

      Cheers,

haven't changed the pads before but if it's simpler than the rears then I'm game for a try. Got a web addy for the pads or contact number?

Driving back from work this morning the squeal seemed to only be occurring at slower speeds, mainly when turning - is there a power sterring belt of some sorts that could be making the noise? Sorry, no clue on this one...

A quick guide to removing/ replacing the pads on a mono 4 pot caliper.

Following workshop procedures safely lift and support the car, remove the wheels. Undo the brake master cylinder and remove a small amount of fluid.
Remove the small R clip from the pad retaining pin, (known as the Jesus clip in some circles, if you forget it you'll learn why it's called so).
Drift the pad retaining pin out, it only comes out one way, being careful that the sprung "H" clip does not fly off and hit you/car.
Using the old pads, squarely lever the pistons back into the calipers (this is the reason for removing some of the fluid, if you do not remove some it can spill out onto the engine bay), do this on both pads either side of the disc.
        Insert the new pads.
Insert the "H" sprung clip, while holding it under tension insert the pad retaining pin.
        Insert the "R" clip.
Do exactly the same on the other side of the car.
Pump the brake pedal and then ensure the fluid is at the correct level.

Refit the roadwheels, lower the car to the groud and torque the bolts to factory figures.

This is only a guide, the responsibility is yours to ensure you are capable to undertake the procedure and I accept no responsibility for anything!!!

And it is only a rough guide
