    Rear brake possibility

    Hi guys

I have been thinking a little bit about the rear brake situation and came up with a possible solution.

Only possible at this stage mind you as there mmay be one or two minor details I have missed (minor read major when you get your hands on it)

How about using the porsche calipers on the rear but fabricating a braket that holds the present rear caliper aswell. The present rear caliper would be fixed up and used soley as the handbrake, the porsche for stopping obviously.

    Any thoughts on this?

How would you get the brake lines to work is the only stumbling block that I can think of at the moment.

    Views please.

Good side is, it means having the big brake option up front......:mischeif:

    Cheers

in all honesty, if you are going to keep the stock caliper, you should change the rear brakes. you'll only be more unsprung weight and decrease the overall performance.

but, to answer your question, the brake lines would be easy. if the present rear caliper is used solely as a handbrake, then the handbrake cables go there and the hydraulic lines go to the porsche caliper. you'd need custom stainless braided lines, but that's relatively easy in comparison to custom brackets.

You could also plumb your original calipers to a hydraulic handbrake.

4 wheel, yes but wouldn't just keeping them cable operated just be easier????

Anyone think that a single bracket would hold??

Depends where it was placed? If it was just moved up, so that you could use the original h/brake cable, then no because the forces acting up the point of the bracket where it would curve to sit the relocated caliper would not be sufficient. If you moved the h/brake caliper to the other side of the strut, which would mean new cables, then yes the forces would be less. If that makes sense to you?

i dont think you could get rid of the hydrolic side of the caliper it also adjusts the handbrake automatically

Something similar has already been done by Stoptech in the USA, although they use a new handbrake caliper. But it's the same idea.

              See here.

You'll need to have adobe acrobat installed to view it.

The minimun disk thickness needed for a porsche caliper will be a lot more than the maximum thickness the stock caliper can take wont it? if you know what i mean?

DOH. what a bit to overlook. ( could just get really used pads as they will only be on as a handbrake????)

hey...this may be stupid but could you not use the just the porsche units and fit a hydraulic handbrake to that?? or is that not the way it works lol

Yes you can but the nasty man at the MOT station would throw his dummy on the floor because it is not a seperate mechanical emergency brake.
