    porsche brake set-up

    help please, lol

i have recently aquired a pair of refurbed 993 carrera 2 front calipers and 944 S2 rear calipers.

has this set-up been used by anyone else? as i would like to know if i can buy off the shelf carriers and discs, but i do have the option of having the carriers tailor made if required. i'm being sensible and sorting the brakes before a remap

any information or links would be much appreciated

RS2 are similar but the bolt PCD and bore spigot are wrong. There are Porsche 2 piece discs that could be used and then you would need custom hats to make them fit.

Mov-it is respected and expierenced brake (kit) manufacturer (assembler) at least in Germany. At least in the past they used Brembo/Porsche calipers, now I've heard they are using precise copies of same calipers and some of their custom design. If price doesn't scare you, I think it will be quality product.

For the fronts the standard route of RS2 caliper mounting brackets and 312mm Audi A8 disks should Work I believe. at the rear I think you may be on your own. Will (Wab the king) has fitted Porsche 4 pots to the rear of his car. He has added a handbrake as the Porsche unit uses brake shoes inside the rear disk ( and the RS2 does as well). Have a look at www. bira.org for more details about the conversiona and search throuh the old posts in the brake section on this forum. Hint: change the date to search from the beginning in the post search.

You mean 314mm and the Seat brackets are better and cheaper

The 993 carrera caliper is basically the same as the RS2. Difference is, the 993 was a leading edge fitment but the (R)S2 is rear edge.

If you fit the 993 caliper to the S2 at the front, you need to either use the left caliper on the right side and vice versa or turn them upside down and reverse the bleed valves and cross over pipes.

                        No,no,no,no

If youdo that the pistons will be in the wrong orientation and you will get uneven pad wear.
The part numbers on the caliper signify which side of the car they go (and specificily the last 3) odds left, evens right.
You are correct that you can remove the bleed nipples and place the opposite side crossover pipe where the bleed nipples were to swap a leading edge caliper to a trailing edge caliper.

Do a search the whole procedure is here somewhere.

Just to summarise this thread and warn others. The Porsche caliper upgrade route has been covered numerous times. I suggest to any others planning this route to check out these threads and THEN buy the calipers.
You cannot simply put calipers on opposite sides etc as Corey pointed out above. These are brakes and you have to make sure you are putting a safe setup on the car.
