    Another 996 Disc Option??

I'm looking to get a brake disc to finish off my 996 conversion, and I wanted a cross drilled disc. The only one I can find that is just cross drilled is a brembo disc at £360 a pair. Does anyone knoe where I can get a Zimmerman cross drilled disc from???

Secondly I was going to use the 323mm x 30mm A8 option, but I've hear this is very tight on clearance. I didn't want to use the 314mm A8 disc, as I don't like the thought of the pad overlapping the disc.

Has anyone considered using the Allroad or the A6 disc that is 321mm by 30mm. It has the same PD, is this a viable option. I've attached a family album pic. It seems to me to be the closest size to the original Porsche disc????

I got mine from Black Diamond (323 x 30) x-drilled and grooved, but i wouldn't bother with x-drilled, just get grooved.

The only crossdrilled disc to use is one that has the holes cast in (ala Porsche) anything else that has been "drilled" is a waste of time as it can lead to stress fractures around the holes and can lead to accelerated warpping.

Agreed, the wisdom around most parts (including this forum) would be to avoid drilled.

As for the 314x30 discs sitting inside the pad, I am running 314s and my pads sit 1 or 2mm inside the disc edge Although I am using machined SEAT carriers so they have been machined to fit this disc

Yes. Two of my friends have tried Zimmerman drilled disks. Both sets cracked in no time.

Yeap Zimmerman drilled discs blow, mine are goosed and am still on first set of pads. Wouldn't buy them again. Worst bit is the rust grows like little cauliflower out of the holes and wears the pads really funny so the disc surface is really grooved in no time. IMHO totally pointless

They don't blow... They suck !

Think y'all will find that grooves are the way forward.

I'll check the family album about that Allroad suggestion. Seems kind of surprising - I thought the hat height was all wrong on those. Luckily I have an Allroad here I can check with huh

Blow, Suck, there is only one situation i can think of when this is a desirable thing And its not anything to do with brakes

Even though their standard kit included drilled discs, AP Racing recommended grooved to me when I was enquiring about brakes some time ago.

I think the picture of cracking above is the most graphic demonstration I've seen as to why drilling is a bad idea.

Go grooved!!! That's what I am doing.

You can get Tarox G88 discs in 323 x 30 x 59.5 for the A8, pretty sure they fit the S2 with 996 calipers.

Not cheap at £200 a pair but they're good discs in my experience.

Agree with Corey (and others), Zimmerman discs aren't very good. Mine were knackered when I removed them, also for a Porsche conversion.

BRY sourced some grooved discs for my conversion (314mm) and they seem very good. Not sure of prices so contact him separately.

Pad overlap can be cured by machining the carriers.

ive found if you counter sink the drilled holes they are not as prone to cracking,

i drilled my 304x28 brembo discs and counter sunk them - no cracks and they have been on bout 10k

But then the sharp edge that helps prevent pad glazing is lost?
