WTF are you on about 4WD?

You said drillings are for better pad contact ...which is total 8o11ox

I said drillings (and/or grooves) are used to de-glaze pads, and as it happens they are also used to shift gases - all well known and nothing that I need to make my mind up about...

I wouldn't choose drilled discs, I gave my reasons which are directly reflected by a recognised manufacturer who I have dealt with in the past. Don't go ******* me off with your ignorance.

Gases on pad/disk surface = less pad to disk contact, holes and grooves = less gases on pad/disk surface. Do i have to make it any simpler?

easy lads - you're both saying the same thing but in different ways.

But just to add to the discussion, I've read that pads gassing was far more of an issue in the past with the asbestos based compounds. According to my book, modern pads hardly produce any gassing, thus negating the issue for venting disks.
Sports cars used to need drilled disks - but now its more of an image thing!

No question about the benefits of grooves though. Especially good if you like the whirring!

4WD you mean it helps MAINTAIN better contact, it doesn't make it any better to start with. That was my point.

There are no gases built up initially, so pad contact will be fine when the brakes are applied. That's why plain discs would be superior in any other situation, there would be more pad to disc contact anyway. My opinion, and it seems that of the manufacturers, is that grooves do the job that drillings were once used for, but with less propensity for cracking.

4WD, if you meant the same as me, point is taken. I just assumed that you meant drilling makes pad contact better per se.

Sorry dude. I did say makes, not maintains. But yes. I did mean the same thing. Hence the confusion when you said my point was untrue.
