Caliper windback tool?? Any other options for fitting new pads?

As above folks....on top of my other woes withe the S2 at the moment my front disks developed a nasty high spot and needs replacing...

So Im getting some new disks and pads tomorrow but I noticed when I tried to polish the highspot out (quickfix// didnt work fully) that the caliper pistons are threaded

This is not good at all as I HAVE to get this job done but cant use my normal technique or tools to push the piston back into the caliper?!!

Is there another way round this or where can I get this tool as cheap as possible??

or anyone in Sheffield I could borrow one off for a day even better?? (favour would be owed big time!!!!)

      Ehhhhhh???!!!

SO you used the G clamp to apply the pressure and the mole grips to turn the piston in its bore??!

Can you confirm this mate before I raj my calipers

      Cheers

          Fronts or rears ?

Your first line indicates front calipers. These are not threaded at all. These just push in so you don't need a special tool.

For rears, you really do need the piston windback tool. Attempting to use anything else can lead to more problems.

            Really???

            Great news Mike ...thanks.
it is the fronts I am on about. Maybe I have a sticking piston then as they didnt seem to want to windback any further than about 1mm from where they were

Could the fact that Ive just changed the bomb have an impact on the fact my disk developed a "high" spot or rubbing ten minutes later??
and possibly the pistons having been underworked due to no assistance have seized at their old working distance in the caliper??
In other words will the stronger braking now I have bomb assistance mean that the calipers are struggling to get back to full fitness???

or is this a load of rubbish?!!

I always found the best way to get the front calipers to 'open' is to get a lever i between the old disc and pad while it is all still assembled and just lever the pads away from the disc, the pistons move in then you can disassemble the lot and put the new bits on no probs.

G clamp and big grips is the way i go too, be carefull not to pinch the rubber dust seal though.
