    S2 Rear brakes

I have recently bought new discs and pads for the rear of my avant but now i am wondering whether you have to change the rear wheel bearings at the same time or whether you may as well change the bearings since they have to be removed as a part of the process when renewing the discs. Can anyone advise.

Also i am thinking that my rear calipers are well past their best does anyone know a rough price for these calipers. Do they fall into that special 'S2 only part' category where they cost an arm and a leg or have they been used on a few models and so are more readily available for reasonable money?

I did chance my arm with euro parts but they do not stock S2 calipers

no need to change or remove wheel bearings when doing rear discs and pads, just make sure that you wind the wind the piston all the way back into the caliper (handbrake off), and do not touch the handbrake until you have finished both sides and driven it up the road otherwise the handbrake mech won't have reset itself properly.

As for new calipers VAG parts most likely or pete reeve quattro corner (no vat to pay via pete)

best thing to do is get it brake tested for free by quick fit... its the hand brake you wanna watch.. as seizing is common...

im testing mine as soon as i get new pads fitted..
if i was you ... if u need to replace a caliper, theres second hand ones from ebay and "all audi" try them

also there is a guy on the ebay doing new calipers for £49 ish

PS: when you go to put the new pads/disc in .... you'll need to push the piston back in

To do this u'll need either circlip pliers (bent at 90 degrees at ends), or needle pliers, .. you insert them into the 2 grooves on piston face and you turn and push to make the piston go in..

I hope this helps!! oh also the rear caliper bolts (2 on each side of vehicle) are a bitch.. could be seized... do your best matey!!

and the caliper/pad carrier bolts are a fine thread too so if you damage one on a sunday morning you won't find one in halfords for instance
