    Porsche vs Brembo vs AP

    Hi Guys

I currently have 8POT calipers on my (R)S2 coupe. The problem is that there are very few suppliers of brake pads for these locally made calipers, so I cant have diffferent pads for "normal" road use, Hill Climb events (which needs to warm up fast) or Track days (no fade and soft enough not to crack the disks).

I'm looking at the Porsche Big Red upgrade but is there a better caliper maybe a 6pot that I should consider for my 325mm 2piece racing disks?

What about a Brembo Caliper, does any1 know of a good caliper without the porsche label from brembo that I should consider buying new and from whom.

Finally an AP 6Pot looks great but where would I buy these at a good price.

Any suggestions would be greatly appriciated.

I'm looking into doing this upgrade. The above link is quite useful. As for actually getting the parts, I'm in the same situation as you.

Yeah that was usefull, but I still can't see how I'm gonna do it for £500!

How much better are £500+ brake conversions over the standard brakes? Coz tbh they dont look all that big... I want braking power! If theres £100 I could spend to increase the braking feel of the standard brakes through the pedal then I would do that for now!

PM S2forum member BRY off this forum....

He sells a very professional kit for about £530 or maybe slightly less. A lot of forum members on here will vouch for his BBK's and they come ready to install with CNC machined Brackets etc etc

+ Im buying one off him too very shortly

                  Hi Guys

VAG parts have the BIg Reds for about GBP500. You would need the S8 discs and pads and RS2 brakets on top of that.

I have the same problem, I dont believe they good enough for track use.

I have made up my own HATS and have access to racing discs in South Africa, however I still need to find a supplier for the 6POT Brembo/Porsche Calipers.

I would love a set of AP 6Pots but I also havent found a supplier for these who will offer them at a good price.

VAG parts is for the calipers ALONE!!!

                        Hey Chris,
I beleive most Porsche/Brembos and APs are more than enough, but as Corey has stated in another thread its the combination of Calipers, discs, pads and cooling (and of course weight of the car,) that make the difference.
I just felt using a std off the shelf A8 disc which BTW I have just bought while I sought out my upgrade, and the 4POT Porsche calipers used on the RS2 is more of a compromise than the proper match setup from a company like AP or Brembo with Matching Race discs.

I am hoping to find the Porsche 6POT GT3 calipers and with proper matching discs I think it would be a great upgrade for my use.

will the a8/996 conversion fit comfortably and easily under 16" avus's?

or are bry's kit a better idea?

No. I believe 17's (may WELL be 18's...Im not sure 100%) are needed as a minimum

looks like ill just be going for some uprated stock size disks and pads, some braided hoses and maybe a higer rated fluid...when i find a car that is...
