    need help with porsche calipers!!

hi, ive just bought a set of boxster 986 calipers and rs2 carriers off wab,
ive also purschased some a8 314x30 brembo disks from GSF,
eventually got around to fitting them today and ive come across a few problems!
firstly i need to make some spacers as the disk is slightly too big so the caliper won't fit on the carrier!! but i can get them machined at work! secondly with the carrier on and the disk flush against the hub i put the caliper over the disks (with pads in and pistons flush with the caliper walls) and the caliper bolt dosnt quite line up with the carrier and its impossible to get in!

will i need to machine a mm off the carrier (hub side) to make the thread sit linear with the caliper hole?? or is there another way around this? as my nurburgring date is getting closer by the week!
    ta Steveo

    may be usefull!:
    caliper p/n's: 986.351.421 and .422 carrier p/n: 8A0615125A

Are you sure you have bought 30mm width discs?

thats weird! Ive recently fitted 996 calipers,rs2 brackets and 322x30 discs (bigger than yours!) from A8, and they went on with almost no problems at all!
        Certainly no machining required!

No it's not, the 996 caliper you have fitted is a lot bigger than the 986 caliper he has.

so basically, just get some 996 calipers or machine mine to fit? if thats the case anyone know the pitch of the thread on the caliper bolts into the rs2 brackets?

The Boxster calipers you've bought are designed for a completely different disc size (298mm x 24mm thick). The 996 calipers (designed for 318 x 28mm) fit the A8 30mm thick disk well (with minor mods) , but to get the 986 calipers to work, you've got some machining to do.

I have managed to squeeze the 986 caliper over a 28mm disc before but was curious as to how he had managed to put them over a 30mm width disc, hence my original query about his disc width but I didn't comment further because he stated the top quote, he must have a big hammer?

When did you say the pads where worn? that explains everything now.

I find this thread that some guys was talking about a 986 calipers.
I am get some 986 calipers from porsche boxer 2002. I planing to put disk from S8 323x30mm. But I read that the 986 are smaler calipers than 996 and that it's need some modifications od 986 calipers to be possible to put 323x30 disk. Can someone please tell what kind of modifications is need to be done? I find what is need for 996, but does anyone have experience for 986 and 323x30 disk?

PS. Sorry if my english is bad.

986 calipers on 30mm disks does not sound like a good idea. They're designed for 24mm thick disks.
The 996 caliper is designed for 28mm disks and itself needs modifying slightly before a 30mm can be squeezed in.
I may be wrong but the only way I can see to fit a 30mm disk in a 986 caliper is either to use half worn pads / or machine the disks down. Neither solution is a good practical solution.

Just get bigger calipers in the first place!
