    996 Monoblocks fitted

Well with a big thank u to Jas I finally have my 996 monblocks on the S2!! As per usual I just sort of watched and had little more arduous to do than pass the odd tool

All went very smoothly - other than the fact that the Porsche dealer had supplied the wrong fitting kit as the bar/pin that holds the pads had it's circlip hole in the wrong place, the hole for the circlip was the wrong side of the pads (think I got a set for the rears) But a little bit of skilled drilling from Mr Armitage sorted that problem Im pleased to say. I can recommend the purchase of a brake spanner for this job, and a bloody big braker bar to hand!!

    some pics of the install!

    the old...

    Brackets on

Some adjustments to the caliper pins

    Just about there!

    You beauties!

All done and looking mighty fine!

Certainly not the cheapest of upgrades but one I thought well worth investing in to offset that particular and well noted deficiency in the S2 - namely stopping power. We used the well tested combination of Seat brackets which needed to be machined in a little (more good work from Jas) and standard A8 Zimmerman 314 x 30mm vented discs. Textar pads, fitting kit and shims from Porsche, RS2 bolts and custom made stainless brake lines from Autopipe in Gateshead.

And the results..... simply and utterly amazin!!! The merest touch on the brake pedal and the brakes bite hungrilly - grind the pedal to the floor and you are stopping with incredible shoulder bruising efficiency!! The confidence I now have with these brakes is just amazin - the car stops as it should upon command which allows you to really release the potential of the S2. I am in awe - and one well happy bunny!!

    cheers

It might not be a 5 pot or an S2... but at least I have a 20v Turbo in my life again.

I have to do this too.

A blast with Ross yesterday across the A43 from the M1 to M40 with half a dozen 120mph stops highlighted how bad the standard brakes are....

Get Ferodo DS2500 pads and it's even better

The stock brakes are just horrible, especially if you've got a re-map. Definitely in my opinion you've got a faster car if you improve the braking first vs. getting the engine power up as you can brake harder, later, longer and without fade.

I'll agree with that!! - the whole car suddenly seems faster, meaner and complete now!! - and I can use all the power that even an unmodified 3b has to offer with confidence! Prolly be next weekend when I can really give the brakes a good try out on the way to the Lakes over Hartside. Cant wait!!

                cheers
