OK guys, what material do you lot use for making bespoke caliper brackerts. I've reached the point where I'm ready to make my brackets but could do with advice on what spec of alloy to use. These are for a 320x30 merc disc and Hispec monster 4 caliper conversion on my UrS4.
Any advice from those in the know?
Graeme.
94 UrS4 Avant, slowly modding as we go. Now gone replaced with:
2001 S6 Avant, V8 works for me!

6082 T6 ally, hard anodised, and helicoil inserts. HTH
Hmm, i thought that 6061 was aircraft quality.. I do not know anything about the materials, it was just one opinion, but he has done lot of them, he makes brackets for local apracing dealer, but maybe he is in the safe side of things.
Aircraft manufacturers use high-strength alloys (principally alloy 7075) to strengthen aluminum aircraft structures. Alloy 7075 has zinc and copper added for ultimate strength, but because of the copper it is very difficult to weld. 7075 has the best machinability and results in the finest finish.
2024-T351 aluminum. The 2024 alloy is the best alloy for the job - 50% stronger than the alloy 6061 normally
used
7075 alloy which is stronger at room temperature, but whose strength declines rapidly as temperature increases
I have brackets for my Brembos made from 2024-T351. I can tell you they are very strong and robust !!
I have included the many bracket adapters that the MFG. made at the time mine was made.
There are numerous aerospace spec allys, as wab says 7075 is the most common, i machined tons of the stuff for airbus. The more exotic stuff gets used on class 1 parts for instance.
Remember its at operating temperature your concerned about which is why i steered away from 7075, Lee said the same also, but as AnLe says people are using it without problems.
I wonder, what kind of NASAlium or unobtanium is used for the caliber them selfs?
They are aluminium alloy but still get far more heat than other brake parts.
Martinjs, Any left over bits of 7075 to sell cheaply?
