Yup. Good switch=zero ohms with engine off & bomb depressurized. AND
Infinite ohms (or some high number) with pressure above 1200-1800 psi. This makes light go off.

Bad switch= 0 ohms with engine running AND pressure above 1200-1800 psi. Makes light go on.

spray some contact cleaner etc. on the terminals, but a bad connection would cause the light to flicker OFF.

The switch might just be tired, and not opening at the correct pressure. This will ohm out as a good switch with the engine off!
You have to measure the pressure, or replace the switch as a test

If the switch is opening at say, 2000 psi, you might have system pressure of 1500 psi, which is plenty for braking assist, but makes the light go on Is your ABS working?

Servo leak test: with engine off, and bomb still full, loosen the return connection on the servo and check for leaking. The book says a few drips are OK. DONT step on the brake! Since you cant get at the servo, loosen the end at the T that connects the brake and steering returns to the bomb.

If all that doesnt pay off, I think you def. need a pressure gauge to rule out a tired pump, or a defective bomb

If all else fails, leave the wires to the switch off, and keep driving!

Glad to help, dude. Now can anyone tell me how to get my muthah fvkin POS rear hatch to stop squeeking like a slaughterd pig, for more than two days!

      THanks for the suggestions josh
I like the sound of trying the servo test at the T...though am a bit wary witha fully pressurised bomb!! though it shouldnt matter I dont think?
ive jsut ordered a new pressure switch so will fit that on Wednesday when its here...then if it doesnt fix it I will do the servo test...before lastly getting a hydraulic pressure test done

Will update you once Ive swapped it

As for the boot squeak....I know how you feel!!!
ive had it twice and now got rid of it finally........

Have you tried pulling out the tailgate adjusters a few notches (or until it takes a real firm shut to close the boot!!)....you have to make sure the Allen key bolts are done up really tight afterwards or it reverts back after a few days!!

Also....I put a carefully placed blob of grease in the boot catch mechanism.....and then used silicone spray all around the boot rim

      job Done

      See here for more tips

      Cheers

        SOunds like a plan, dude!

About the leak test.... if the servo is leaking, i think you will get a little stream of fluid... you dont have to disconnect the hose, just loosen the clamp at first, and if its leaking you will know, and tighten her right up. I f the servo is good (c ross fingers) only a few drips. just do it on your neighbors driveway in case it gets messy!

Thanks for the tips on the hatch. i re-adjust the things, and get em tight, but the squeek comes back in a few days!!

Hi wab. Did you get rid of the hyraulic brake servo too?
I dont think you can blank off the return from the rack. It needs dump return back to the reservoire.

Can i steal your avatar? My wife and laughed like hell when we saw that short movie on the ice age dvd.

              S2dude,

The return from the servo is the line closest to the bulkhead (rear) on top of the servo. You need to remove the brake fluid reservoir to get at it. Even when I did this I could not undo the nut as I could not get a spanner around it properly. I think you would need to modify a pipe spanner to fit.
I couldn't locate any T piece, but I suspect that would be even more difficult to get at.

Let me know how you get on. I've bought a new bomb without checking the servo, so I hope I don't get the same issue..
              Cheers
              Robin

                    @Silver squirrel//

I fitted the switch and BINGO
The light is gone and car is 100% hydraulics wise!!!

I could tell the old one was knackered because when i took it out it sounded like the thing was a rattle!! and all its insides were broken!!

Bit fiddly to fit new one but not bad at all......once you have worked out hand positions and how to get a full length 22mm spanner in there its a piece of cake
(or I would have bought a new spanner to cut down to small size)

i was suprised though that no fluid leaked out when I removed the old switch?!! was expecting major splashage!??!!! but not a drop?

                      Good news, dude!

I picked up a set of stubby gear wrenches a while back.. my favorite new tools. Highly recommended for that kindof PITA work.
