    Anti dive tips

    Hey.

Have installed new 996 calipers (thanx Corey and bry! )
A8 323x30 discs and Carbopad GT pads.

the problem i seem to be having now is that when i brake full on from lets say 200km/h the car almost lifts its rear tires from the ground

Iam now going to but abit (ok alot) more camber on all wheels. Im planing something in the line of -2 - -2.5 degres on front axle. Seeing as the rear tires are lifting and the front dives something humongous iam poundering what to do about it.

With more Camber i already have less tires surface on teh road when i begin to brake. I will have even less when brake pressure is applied. Feels like a shame to loose brake performance with this.

So now to my question. Does any1 have an idea how to get more brake power in the back. A brake adjustment knob will just take power from the front and put it in the back. Great to use for balance but kinda bad if you want more brakepower.

Im thinking id need some bigger discs and some bigger caliper or?
What size of disc would the standard caliper be able to hold? Alternatives to standard caliper handbrake wise?

Bring it on all you knowledgable peeps.

    What suspension are you runnning??

Harder / better damping (adjustable so you can change the bias) would be the first port of call IMHO........

As far as I am aware the brake bias is NOT manually adjustable and this is for a good reason

H&R cupkit. Bilstein dampers and HR Springs.

Well no it isnt but you do change it when you upgrade the braking on one end of the car.
Besides feels kinda bad to enginer around the problem wich is more brake power on the front than on the rear insteed of just getting down to buisness.
I do agree that it is the easiest option though

Your quite right on this meep

        The solution.............

Put some Biiiig brakes on the rear also ....

thiw will evne up the bias and you will stop even faster!!!!

Search the forum for "rear brake upgrade" or similar.....as I know they have been done...but may need some modifications to make it work

          Hi Meep
How will increasing the rear braking, stop your car lifting its rear tires from the ground
s2dude was right to suggest susspension, although i see you have a firm set up already
if you increase the braking you are increasing the forward G load, so you will end up with more weight over the front axle
I think you need some stiffer front springs
          Dez

Never did overtime until i purchased........s2

This is odd - I don't experience this with my H&R springs/big front brakes. Are you sure you've got stiffer springs (sorry if that's a silly question and don't mean to offend, but it does sound odd).

You could try in the interim sticking some EBC Greens at the back - also are your rear brakes actually working at all? Worth checking.

Failing that, how about putting some ballast at the rear - say a big bag of sand?!

My RS6 setup will lift the rear wheels on my avant under heavy braking on uneven surfaces.

I have just received the parts for my new rear brake setup which will be 300x22mm (currently 256x20mm) to try and even out the bias. Hopefully that will reduce the nosedive issue.

Well i checked partnumbers when i recieved the springs to se if it was the right ones. I was unsure seeing the problems peeps where having on here with the wrong springs and such. The part numbers checked out abd it was the correct spring.

Yes i have given this a thought. It should help up things abit but i dont think that it defenetly put an end to the problem. Just helping it abit.

I'll be using 2007 S4 rear calipers and brackets. They are a regular single piston caliper.

The Avant is coming of the road at the end of this week for a long overdue major overhaul and the rear brakes are one of the items on the list.

There will be a thread coming soon

I'd take the damping route first - just a thought, but if the rear wheels aren't in touch with the ground then any size of rear brakes isn't really gonna help (unless they're so big they weight it down...) I'd think the stiffened suspension to minimise the 'dive' to keep the rear planted would be a first step, then go about adding some braking force. I'd think an avant would be OK because of the extra length and weight over the rears, but then Ben is really taking the piss with his fronts

I've felt the back going very light under heavy breaking, but the car is always very stable and if you start to lose it a quick lightening of the brake pedal and counter-steer will bring her back in line (or you can hold the "feint braking maneuvre" if you want kudos). Or I imagine a throttle-blip will work if you're left-foot braking! With ABS there's no risk of the rears locking up I assume - at least I've never had this happen (running 996s up front, EBC green pads rear, currently stock springs/shocks).

Anti dive and anti squat/lift are achieved by angling the lower control arms away from the direction of the problem - in this case the rear leg of the front wishbone would be mounted higher than the front leg. At the rear, mount the front legs of the wishbones higher than the rear legs. Doesn't need to be much.

Huh - but haven't I been telling you and others that the 2004 S4 rear caliper looks like being perfect for the 300x22 conversion on the Avant ?

The 2004 claipers are silver - not black - is that why you waited for 2007 S4 parts ?

surely even if your rear brakes worked better they wouldnt stop the front dipping down and if you did have bigger brakes on the back surely you would be in the dangerous situation of the rear brakes locking up and skipping all over the road or would the rear end grip down dunno i canny see why better rear brakes would stop the front from diving so much if they were so much bigger ..

the only thing i did on my car although mine is the avant so this may help with rear weight over the back//
was to try and stop the front wishbones moving as much as they do when you slap your brakes on i over come this to some degree using sheets of thick rubber and putting them either side of the wishbones well i say rubber i found some poly rubber stuff and used this and it made a huge diffence to the feel of the car when putting my brakes on.. i recon i must have stopped a couple of mm of movment in the wheels when heavy braking ..
