    Parts for my 996 conversion

Ok, I've looked at all the relavant info via the search tool and it seems to be quite varied and contradictory! I have bought a set of 4 black Calipers, part no.s

    996.351.426
    996.351.425
    996.352.421
    996.352.422

I also have all the pins and brackets that attach the pads to the calipers, but nothing else so far. I DO NOT PLAN TO FIT THE REARS FOR THE MOMENT. I will buy all the remaining parts today if someone can point me in the right direction!

What I think I need is:

    RS2 carriers from vagparts.com
Braided brake hoses of some kind?
Bolts to hold the front ones on.
    Pads
    Disks

At the moment I have the standard 16inch avus wheels but idealy want to get hold of some '99 S4 17s (will go for the newer ones If I can't find the older ones!!)

Can someone PLEASE tell me exactly what to buy!

    Thanks

    _phil

I don't think RS carriers fit the 996's. You need modified SEAT brackest or custom ones. I would talk to Bry.

You then need to decide on disks. The usual route is A8 disks in 314 or 323 variety.

All that is off the top of my head, but there are loads of threads on this in the brake forum if you have a look...

    Cheers,

RS2 carriers fit, but they make the pads overhang the discs when using 314mm discs and make the inside of the caliper very close to the 323mm disc.
323mm discs can be used under 16" Avus but they are very close and some people have scratched the caliper and inside of the wheel when small stones have become trapped inbetween them.
A8 discs should have the 60mm hat height GSF sell brembo and zimmerman for ~£90 a pair.
If you are getting the 17" wheels soon it may be better waiting until you have them and then getting the Seat brackets made to suit the 323mm discs.
You can get braided hoses to replace the flexi line to the caliper, but you would have to measure that length and get them made up for you. I haven't got round to measuring that yet. RS2 hardlines will replace the S2 flexi lines and are cheap.
Bolts are RS2 bolts if you search you will find the part numbers, or ask Martyn the S2 traitor! :mischeif:
You can get pads from GSF for the Boxster 'S' - they are textars.
Buy an easy-bleed kit from Halfords as it does exactly what it says on the tin!
S6 wheels are better as you don't need spacers for them

I run the set up just as Bry described with the Seat brackets modded to fit the 314 A8 discs from GSF all under my 16" Avus rims, with plenty of clearance. I would def recomend the RS2 hard lines ae they just flex into place, being copper.

More importantly though, wot are '99 S4 17" wheels?

        Cheers n

Cheers for the replies guys, especially Bry (after I bought those calipers from goodwood just as you happened to walk by!)

Btw, did you ever manage to get you're hands on a set of calipers? If my conversion goes to pot you're having first refusal mate, but I really hope they go on OK!

Well, you know how the S4 wheels are very similar to the S2 wheels? The older ones are IDENTICAL, just 17inches. However the newer ones have a slightly sharper ridge at the end of the 'spoke' which makes them look a bit more modern. Their nice enough, its just I would prefere to keep to the identical wheels only stretched a bit!

                  I hope these pics help...

Umm, this is confusing me, as I have only seen S3 17" avus alloys and they will not fit the S2. The ones in your linked pics look like 18"s to me

I have 16" (orig) and 18" (for sale actually) Avus wheels, but prefer the idea of 17"s as that could be a good compromise between handling and hard ride.

Good luck with the brakes....they make a world of difference when sorted

                      Cheers n
