I never removed it - just slid it out a bit - try it in some different gears - this is all done on feel - you can't see the nipple.

No - everything was on the car when I did this. I'll be doing it again sson as I'm changing from Halfords sh1tty DOT 5.1 to Castrol Response Super DOT 4.

I can just about see the nipple but would be sooo much easier with that gear linkage off.

Made no difference what so ever

Have booked it in to get checked out by a mechanic i trust... so no doubt gonna cost me an arm and a leg.....

@Doug, did you manage send me that oring as I have an RS2 ECU now!! It needs a bit of 'hacking ' with a soldering iron to suit my config but I am back on the road when I get that little ring of rubber!

Surely Halfords Dot 5.1 should at least be better than the **** standard DOT4 that should go in the S2?

How much does Castrol Response Super Dot 4 cost, and where can you get it from? (wondering what to do with 2 litres of Halfords DOT5.1 that I was about to use to re-bleed my syystem...)

Don't know if it is transparent - I haven't opened it yet - I'm hoping to do this over the weekend.

Yes - sent it. I can send you the chips you were running and the resistor you need ot change if Mihnea hasn't already done so - Actually I'm not sure if the resistor or MAP sensor need changed? Easy to do - have you had the ECU apart - there is a knack to pulling out the top board.

Not all 5.1 are the same. But you get racing DOT4 which has better temperature ratings than DOT5.1 - do you know the ratings of halfords stuff? Neither do I, and I get fade on the AP kit.

Halfords and £9.99 a litre - I got 2 litres. Make sure you pick up the SUPER one - as the is plain Response stuff is sitting there as well.

Brake fade? What's that? Response Super DOT4 is the nuts for a budget fluid! I might have said that before. LOL! Don't open the bottle until you are ready to use it as brake fluid is gnerally hygroscopic.

Thanks Doug for posting that thing for me. There is indeed a nack to pulling it apart and I have done it a few times now. I have an RS2 ECU now so I need to change a single resistor to recalibrate it for my S2 MAF and will either make up something like an OP Amp circuit to recalibrate the 3bar MAP sensor or just fit my old 2.5 bar one to suit my chips. I can't just add a resistor as I need to step up the voltage output of the RS2 3bar MAP sensor. I have new chips so they can be fitted as they are better suited to my setup now that I have changed my fecked filter. I need to talk to Paul N about my old ECU now..PM coming up. I needed to be back on the road this weekend but other things have come up at the last minute.

Never assume that DOT5.1 is more suitable or better than DOT4. Yes, they are different but the higher DOT number does not necessarily indicate that it is a 'better' choice for use in an S2. You need to consider selection in more detail than just looking at the DOT number alone if you want to make the right choice.

It's easy to change the MAP sensor - I did that this afternoon - it's less hassle than getting a small IC (and resistors, and decoupling capacitors, and power to it) in there.

BTW Doug, I am trained to European Space Agency standards for flight spacecraft soldering so I can use a soldering iron! :nana: I've got stuff that's been in orbit for the last 4 years, 400 miles above our heads wizzing around at 7 kilometers per second that I soldered (wiring harnesses and complete circuits with surface mount crap. Its not my profession but I can certainly do it quite well. The right equipment helps too!! Stereo magnifiers and variable temperature soldering station....I want to buy one of each and they often come up on ebay...I can use the work stuff I guess!
