    996 Monoblock union thread!

Experienced a slight snag yesterday by cross threading the brake union nut into one of the monoblocks This was done by hand threading the union nut in to the thread by about 3 turns and then using a spanner. Live and learn I suppose. I also looked at the thread in the other calliper and it's not too hot either.

I'm trying to find out the diameter and pitch of the thread in the callipers so that I can try and sort out the thread by running a tap down the original thread.

An M10x1.0mm nut (from a track rod end ball joint!) screws on to the union easily so I think it's M10x1.0mm.

I don' think that the thread is tapered?

Please let me know (if you do) as I quite obviously don't want to phook up my Monoblocks any further! All help VERY much appreciated!

You may have to go the next size up and get some new pipes made up.
          Good luck.

I think you mentioned putting an insert into these in your other thread.

I don't know if it's an option for brakes but if it is then I've used WTi inserts before.

Give them a call as the chaps there are really helpful and they make inserts for absolutely everything. They supply you with the entire kit including taps. They weren't massively expensive from what I can remember either.

However, this may not be an option as I say due to it being part of a braking system.

Good luck, hope you get this and they other stuff sorted.

              Good luck.
Got them in work today so going to run a tap down the thread and see what's left. It's not useable at the moment so might as well give it a crack.

Cheers for the insert link. I'll check it out later today.

Need all the luck I can get!

Any recommendations on wgo to speak to about having new lines made up with larger sized unions?

To answer my own question, it is an M10x1.0mm thread. Just run the tap down the good calliper thread with almost no resistance / cutting.

Larger size brake unions are available in:

                M12x1.0mm, 1/2" & 5/8".

                Demon-tweeks linky

Will more than likely buy the kit to make my own lines up!

Fitted the brakes this evening and all seems well. Took the chance to clean up the bleed nipple threads at the same time so a sort of mini service on the old beasts.
