    RS2 Handbrake

I jumped into my car today and accidently placed my arm on the handbrake. It shot downwards and now it does not want to stay up.

If I hold the handbrake up by hand it holds the car so the handbrake system must be working.

Have I broke the teeth on the ratchet or is it something more serious?

I wouldn't have thought it possible to break the rachet mech. It's probably just skip out. If you remove the centre console part you'll easily see what has gone wrong as it is a very simple setup.

If the ratch mech has broken as you suggest, then you can get a replacement from any Audi 80 vaariant AFAIK.

the ratchet mechanism is pretty stout, so I doubt you broke that. It does, however, rely on gravity to release the mechanism...so maybe yours is just goobered (sp?) up. Try spraying a lubricating solvent near the ratchet's pivot point. Good luck!

Yep, you've broken the teeth off the ratchet! Had to replace mine last year for the same reason.
