  • S2 Avant brake cables

    Advice needed ...

Got stuck/seized brake cable(s) and need to replace both to pass MOT.
ETKA tells me I need part# 8A0609721AD and fits both left and right.
but, when searchin' for 8A0609721AD at my parts store I got no success

If i search for part by my VIN it comes up with 8A0609721AF as recomended part #
but, ETKA says 8A0609721AF is for Audi 80 FWD ?

Not so many S2 Avants out there but does anyone know if 8A0609721AF will fit my (1993) S2 Avant ?
or, mby some other alternative ?

    also,
Do I need to tear down both the exhaust and prop-shaft to get access for replacement ?

It seems you need to remove the exhaust to access the brake cables. Hope some experts would chime in.

Just gone through all my old pics and I can't find one showing. You do need to remove the heat shields that cover the cable brackets but can't remember if you can do that with exhaust on

Have not been able to study details but would have been nice if it was possible and replace brake cables without disassembling the exhaust,
a little skeptical about whether it will survive it ...

btw, at some point I need to renew my exhaust, someone know if anything avail for S2 avant ?

Be aware the cables need to be pulled out towards the front of the car.

Was not aware of the cables need to be pulled out towards the front of the car, Thnx

Has access to (4) bolts that hold the heat shield but not sure if it can be removed with the exhaust on, time will tell ...
            but,
still need correct part number for brake wires.

These are my spares. I will see if there is a number on them.

Adapt FWD handbrake cables to fit Quattro (starts at ~4:30)

I ended up ordering 8A0609721AF but hasn't got them yet ...

Going to a "pre"-MOT tomorrow, hopefully it does not reveal more errors than I am already aware of :0

Tradition have the AD cables. All quattro avants use the same ones

I've just fitted a new pair of 8A0609721AD to my avant which were bought new from Tradition last year, so probably still available.

                              Already ordered 8A0609721AF ... and got'em ...
and NOT equal to the 8A0609721AD, missing the part shown in Tractor Dave's post above
                              brake-cable.jpg
but I'll try to adapt'em like done in this Youtube video : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5rOzc87mf0E (@ ~4:30)

Not sure if the part missing really needed ?
If it's just to protect the cable it propably would be ok to "wrap" it with something in the area passing tru' the track-control-arm ?
