    996 Caliper Pin Question

I decided to install my 996 (actually Boxster S) BBK this weekend on my NA UrS6.

I was planning on cutting the pins down by 1mm each to accept the 314x30mm rotor. But I just realized that my father has my dremel.

What is the method for pushing the pins in? Do I just use a big *** "C" clamp and a block of wood?

It looks like there are some type of locking pins that hold the caliper pins in though.

    TIA
    Dave

PS - Saw a post where someone mentioned that the Boxster S version was designed for 32mm thick rotors. Can anyone confirm? The rotors fit but with probably .5mm clearance rotor to pin.

Yep, big old G-clamp. block of wood on the outside face.
Dont worry about the roll pin, the caliper pin will move the couple of mm you need.
Good thing doing it this way, you aren't removing a couple of mm off a £250/£300 pair of calipers.
0.5mm is not enough clearence, you'll mark the disc face when they get hot and expand.
As far as I know, the Boxster S is the same as the 996 Carrera 2, only difference is the colour.

My pins have been moved out for over two years now with over 30k miles on them. They haven't caused any issue what so ever.

Tell you the truth, I'm going to sing my own praises here, and say it was little old me that did this first. Although hitting the pin in anger with a hammer wasn't the best way to discover it

Thanks. I used the clamp and block of wood method at first and then ended up taking a chisel (don't have a drift) and hammer to it. Worked out fine and not too much collateral damage.

My only worry is that I dont ****** up the hard line removing the flex line. It doesn't look corroded and I sprayed it last night with 'liquid wrench.'
