Hi, im converting my CQ to run S2 5 stud hubs.
And im having no joy trying to remove the ABS sensor from my old hubs in order to refit into the s2 hubs.

I normally just pull them out with my thumb and forefinger, sometimes they need a wiggle. If that's any help.

Plumbers freeze, hmmm... sounds like i mught have to try that.

I think they are beyond a pull and a wiggle, looks like theyve iron oxide welded themselves in.

ive tried levering with a large screwdriver from the outside and tapping from the inside but fruitless so far, ill try the freeze idea.

Thanks for you quick reply guys.

Sorry. I guess mine have been in and out so many times they haven't had a chance to seize. I've never found them to be a problem.

Not if they're seized in like mine were you dont

Two of mine were welded in (almost) when I did all the wheelbearings and ABS system overhaul...

We tried heat > no luck

Hitting very hard from the inside out with hammer and various punches/chisels = no chance

All sorts of sprays and releasing lubricants > no luck

One came out ok out of three (4th I had removed anyway)

Ended up having to drill the other two out . Even the copper shell had welded itself into the hub so I got a friend to drill it (engineering firm drill) to the correct size and that removed the remains of copper sleeve.

You will most likely need new copper locating sleeves if you have to take this route.

Make sure you copper slip them and the inside of the hole before fitting to ensure the metals dont react together over time and weld up..

Also, copper slip the sensor into the copper sleeve.
it should be a snug push fit and pretty gentle pull to remove like Stu says.

If they are still too tight you need to remove any crap from the hole (wet and dry or dremel) and reseat the copper sleeve to get the correct snug fit.

I fitted all new sensors because I was refurbing the hubs anyway

To get the distance right so the ABS works correctly, put hub on the car. Seat the sensor so it catches on the teeth it reads off, and back it out a gnats bollock until it doesnt catch and the hub turns freely. Thats the correct distance!!

Definition of a gnats bollock = a very slight amount like 1mm ~

                Thanks mate!

                A gnats bollock, got ya.

Well what i think im gonna do is, because the abs sensors are stuck in the hubs im not using, so if they come out easy great, if they dont ill just unplug them and fit some new/used ones. cos the s2 hubs ive got have an intact copper sleeve already inside, so just need to push in some sensors.

Cheers s2dude, 4wheeldrifter and knight rider s4 for your help!

I managed to twist mine out with a pair of pliers and getting rather medieval on them!

It was bloody hard work especially as I had managed to "crimp" the end of the sensor with the new CV when fitting it!

                      Good luck.

                      Cheers,

                      Steve.
