    Unwanted drone.......!

Hi All, i posted a while back with an unwanted drone from the front wheels/brake area. Well, all ball joints, arb, wheel bearings, everthing has been checked for loosening. Nothing. THe noise seemed to have gone (which worried me even more). But typically the morning i left with the good lady for the roadtrip to geneva it started again.

Symptons are: whirring drone from the front drivers side which stops the instant the brake is applyed but continues once the brake is lifted. Splashing water on the brakes stops it for 50 miles before it starts again and there seems to be more brake dust collecting on this wheel?

It's booked in for a nose on Monday and I was just wondering if anyone else has ever had this problem? It had new discs and pads on the front 1500 miles ago and has squaked every now and then but I put this down to bedding in of new pads/discs? The guy at the garage said he'd take the caliper off and grease all and replace to see if this sorts it?? This seemed a bit of a shot in the dark approach to me?

I am presuming it the pad rubbing on the disc, why i have no idea and the cure? Greasing?

    HELP please!

    Many thanks
    Dan

Corrosion on the the RS2 brake calipers. I have the same problem.

Need stripping down cleaning and plastilube applying not copper grease.

If they were stripped down 1500 miles ago any major galvanisation build up should have been sorted to allow new pads to fit.
Did they replace the backing plates ? If not then the pads will not be stuck to these and will give noise on occasion as they fail to fully retract. BTDT
Also if the pads were not OEM they will be the slightly thicker and hence may drag with a new disc. My new DS2500 were fine as the disc was part worn.

When I replaced my standard calipers with the big reds I found one corner of the 'refurbed' caliper had sufficient galvanisation build up to distort the spring plate which in turn did not allow free pad movement.

Off topic - How are you getting on with the new DS2500?

I'm looking to fit these next. Any squeel/excess noise from them? Would be keen to hear your view on them.

Do a search, they are the best pads bar none. They do however produce a lot of brake dust!

I had them on my Coupe fantastic stopping power.

Excellent. More brake dust than I recall but I put that down to the bigger cast hole discs
