    Rear caliper sticking??????????

I've been out taking it steady for about on a 40min run and the rear drivers side alloy wheel was that hot you couldn't even put your hand on it for more than 30 sec's? i think the caliper is sticking as it is only on that side?

Anybody had this before? if i can't sort it tomorrow i will put the rs4 rear set up on which i read up about? And is bigger set up and looks really cool

It turned out to be the handbrake. Just took the rear wheels off and freed them up with WD40 and now i can park on a hill without it in gear Which i never do anyway just an experiment

Keep an eye on it, I had one causing issues on my coupe and re-greasing got me through a winter, but it eventually needed replacing. About ÂŁ70 for a new caliper so best off to put it towards an upgraded rear setup if you're taking that path

Planing on upgrading the fronts soon so i think i will do the rear at the same time if the money is good. I've seen a rs4 rear upgrade post on here and it look the nuts, so that is what i will be going for hopefully

Help needed. 1994 Aby S2 avant Rear caliper hand brake caliper mechanism was seized. Now free and moving great but doesnt have enough tension when cable is reconected to bring the cable all the way back only pulling 3/4s of the way back and can be pushed back all the way quite easily.Any ideas.Hand brake cable slides in and out with fingers without to much resistance. Is the internal spring replaceable or is it possible to fit an external spring to boost tension??

Yes you can buy a stronger spring, there are some details on the forum about it somewhere, IIRC it was off an old Sierra or soemthing.
The cause really though needs to be addressed, which will be corrosion in the handbrake lever bore on the caliper, probably coupled with an old stretched handbrake cables. You can strip down and rebuild the rear caliper, or buy a new one. Likewise replace the handbrake cables.

The stronger caliper return spring comes off the Sharan/Galaxy platform models IIRC

I thought it was sierra's that had the stronger springs, not saying that others dont
Dont the Coupes and saloon/estate's use a different calipers? The Coupes alway seem to seize but the saloon/estate dont.
Ive got lots of saloon ones, along with the handbrake cables so when my Coupe's seize i'll be able to fit them

stronger spring wont solve problem. you have to refurb rear brakes with new seals. it is very common failure on all audi 80 ....

                        rear springs

Had the same problem but as a short term measure I cleaned up pivot mechanism and all guide pins with new grease including plenty of wd40 down the cable. Wipped off the old springs and replaced with the stronger Granada springs. Works a treat and handbrake now like new. Will refurb calipers when time and funds permit but all seems fine for now as all money blown on the front 996 upgrade!
