Corey,
Very eloquently put but I only gave an honest answer as to what the brackets cost me. Whats wrong with that?
Agreed if you are machining a batch on a n.c. but manually milling one set as I did. Set up and machining is easily done in an hour.
I'll do you a price for 400 no problem but you might get a shock at our hourly rate, it could easily be double what you'd be charged down your way. Blame the oil industrly for making Aberdeen an expensive place for engineering
Luckily I was able to carry the brackets in my lunch box so transport costs were kept to a minimum
. Charge what you need to make a profit Corey, I do.
I don't do mates rates, I don't suppose you do either, but I can know that any component I/we machine is to the highest standard. The inspection processes that our work goes through before and after it has left us mean I know just who to blame if something doesn't fit etc.
Cheeky I don't mind, or thought provoking, or inquisitive, or even a decent bit of banter is fine. Personally I think your price of £95 for the brackets is pretty good, it's certainly less than I would charge but it doesn't alter the fact that it would only take me an hour to machine 'em.

And can we cross-check that with the correct Audi part number for the right 323x30 disc - I wasn't aware there was two flavours until this thread (unless GSF have sent you a disc from a Mercedes or somethin)

Any machine shop is going to charge for a setup (normally 1 hour minimum) charge plus the machining time per bracket, the more brackets you do the more this setup charge is spread.
If your company is only going to charge an hour than you can cost up doing 400 brackets for me then and I will put a few on the shelf.
Factor in the cost of taking them to the machine shop, having to carry stock in the hope someone may buy them at some point and (heaven forbid) make a little bit of profit to develop other products.
There is always going to be someone who can do something cheaper or at mates rates but who do you blame if something doesn't fit or work correctly?
Personally I would prefer to buy a warranted part that I know is going to fit.
Or is that being cheeky???
RS2 carriers bolt straight on but they cost about twice the price of our machined SEAT brackets (£95+VAT for the pair btw
)
smith9669,

I would like to know this too. 034 list the RS2 bracket in both a machined and non machined version. These were listed for use with the 996 caliper with the 323 A8/S8 rotor. I e-mailed them for an explanation but have not heard back from them. I do not mind paying the difference between the two (65USD) but still would like more information. Corey? Is there a big saving with the Seat carrier, when you factor in machining costs ?
I have the RS2 carriers which I'm reliably informed bolt straight on with 323x30 disc and 996 monos. Hope I'm not being deluded here... That stuff has sat in a dang box for nnnnnnnnhhhhhhhhhhhggggggggggggg three years - OMG that is bad.
Paul
