    Turning Down A8 discs

So whilst my car is having itself a new coat of paint I figured that I would treat it to a new set of discs and pads when I get it back. The current setup I have allows for a 304mm disc to be used but the Disc I am after is 314mm.

I inherited the car with 314mm discs that has been turned down to 304mm and I have absolutely no idea where to get it done. I know I need to find someone who is handy with a lathe but I should imagine that its not the easiest job.

Anyone have any ideas on where I could get this done?

Any engineering shop worth their salt could do it in less that an hour. Not sure if its a bit too far for you but i can recommend one in Redhill.

      Hi Rob

My advice would be to replace your caliper mounts with machined Seat Cupra ones and use full sized 314mm A8 discs. I run this setup on my Avant with the standard 16" Avus wheels without any clearance issues.

At least that way you are only paying for the machining once rather than every time you replace your discs.

I would think BRY or Corey should be able to help you with this.

      Cheers

      David

        Both great suggestions.

Redhill is about a 50 minute drive from me so not too bad.

David, I shall drop Corey an email and see how much it will cost. If its cost effective then I shall be adopted that approach.

Well I haven't changed them since I have had them and they have been around three sessions of castlecombe, some stunning roads in cornwall and every other weekend of country lanes around the country!

Oddly enough this thread has just popped up:

Could prove to be quite interesting if he can source the right ones for my caliper type. (Dan? )

Oh and Dan, I knew I would have fun in this car but I have enjoyed it so much I take it out on random drives all the time.

Rob your calipers are 968CS calipers - ie. they are the same size and shape as the original stock RS2 calipers (hence the achieving the 304 x 30mm A8 disc malarkey - although original RS2 has a 32mm disc thickness...)
