Brake upgrade - some noobie questions

Ok, forgive my ignorance but I have some very basic questions about brake upgrades which may help those of us new to this area of upgrading. Basically an idiots guide.

    1. Do both the front and rear brakes need to be upgraded?

    2. Is it possible to fit ANY Brembo calipers with an appropriate converter made up?

    3. Is it worth upgrading calipers and leaving stock discs?

    4. Has anyone used brakes from anything like sporty mercs, jags or rangies that are made by brembo?

    5. There seem to be loads of cheap Brembos for sale on ebay that have come off Imprezzas, would they fit?

    6. Basically, how do you go about upgrading the brakes if you haven't a clue?

With the greatest of respect, in answer to number 6, if you haven't got a clue then speak to Bry or Corey and get them to sell you the 996 Caliper / A8 Disc upgrade.

There is loads and loads and loads written about this in the brake forum for you to get your teeth into.

However, brakes are not something to be messed about with. When assessing the options for upgrading you need to understand the disc diameter and hat height and PCD, the position of the caliper, the pad swept area, the effect wear on the pads will have, the wheel clearance, and in some cases the master cylinder capacity.

IMVHO it is not an easy DIY upgrade if you are asking the questions above.

The reason I suspect no one uses Calipers from other manufacturers, is purely down to suitablility on our Audi's with the discs that are available, but I stand to be corrected.

I hope that answers some of your questions.

    Cheers,

    Steve.

I'd agree with that, got my set up from Bry, top guy, drove all the way to my house in the north of scotland to deliver the brakes The kit was all genuine audi bits apart from the custom brackets and custom braded lines. Great guy to deal with, knows his stuff.
