    Brake Problems!

    Brake Problems!
Since my 913B coupe was broken into and messed around with she hasn't been the same since, I have recently just replaced the rear discs, as one of my brand new Black diamond's were warped... I have made new copper brake lines up for the rear and replaced both rear calipers..

The N/S rear caliper is not bleeding properly only a drizzle of fluid coming out and the pedal isn't returning properly.. I'm using DOT4 fluid, all the others bleed fine just not this one.

Initially I thought the old caliper was shot hence the replacement and the O/S rear has been replaced a few months ago as it was seized..

I unscrewed the copper hose on the N/S to see if fluid was coming out of the T Piece and it was fine...

I am thinking that the brake compensator is knackered or possibly the Master cylinder??

Have tried bleeding the brakes with the wheels on the ground and still no joy!

    any ideas???

    Cheers

    Jamie

Make sure the handbrake is OFF when bleeding the rears. Its an easy / stupid thing to overlook - I have done it.

I had a similar problem last weekend on mine, the rear right caliper had very little pressure vs the passenger side. I ended up doing all four corners twice and the second time around i had success.

The trick i found was to close the bleed nipple and raise the pedal very slowly. If you just pull it back up it seems to suck air in around the seals and fluid goes nowhere. It was taking a good 10secs fully return from each press. Do that a few times for each caliper and by the second time around the pedal will be back to normal.

No offense - but it IS possible to be that stupid and not realise it for a while - amidst the rain, confusion and red mist of shouting 'WTF doesn't it bleed properly ?' into the darkness

Might be completely wrong here but I was taught that if manually bleeding without using a bleed kit that you should tighten the nipple before raising the brake pedal to avoid letting air into the system?

It was my dad teaching me in fairness on my first Mini which I built and he always stitched me up for his own amusement!

I will give it another try tomorrow ensuring the handbrake is off!

                Thanks for the advice chaps!

Thats what i was trying to say, important bit is to raise the pedal slowly
