    Brake Warning Light!!!

    Hi All,

Last night when I started the wagon as I was about to pull away the brake warning light came on. I stopped the car, all the levels for brake and hydrolic fluid are spot on. I started the car again and all has been fine since. It brakes fine.

    Any ideas?

    Cheers

Sounds like the standard brake bomb very slow pressure loss scenario that lots of us suffer from. It is not serious.

I would check the brake bomb by doing the following:

After a drive, turn the engine off. Now pump the brake pedal. You should get 40 - 50 or more "pumps" before the pedal goes hard. This will tell you your Bomb can still hold adequate pressure.

The net result is, after standing for a while your car will beep, beep, beep, and show the (!). It is nothing to worry about. just annoying....

Mine has been doing it for nearly 4 years. You get used to it...

    Cheers,

    Steve.

I get that with mine since I put the new bomb in. Thought I was leaking fluid as I forgot a washer on the PAS pump but after putting it back the fluid has been the same the last 3 months and brakes are spot on! Light flashes for about 20 seconds if I leave it for more than 12 hours.

I was giving a ride to someone and he's like ooo what's that flashing, I said oh that's the glow plug on the turbo telling me it's warming up

It can also be dodgy ABS cables at your brakes.

Same here. I have only had one postive alarm in 11 years of S2/RS2 ownership. It was low hydraulic fluid in bottle due to exit pipe leaking.
The RS2 always does it after standing now. Passed 'bomb' test last time I checked and all levels OK.
From the way things work i.e. the bomb is a passive backup & and the lights always goes out immediately after touching brake pedal again my guess is slowly dying bomb, although it could be the connections/sensors for the brake & hydraulic bottle levels.

Mine started doing it today, pumped the pedal well over 30 times and no stiff pedal!

Just one of those things I guess!

SOLVED FOR LESS THAN £5.00. The contacts on the brake fluid bottle socket die & you can get a replacement socket that clips on. Talk to vagparts. Not a single false alarm for 6 weeks (used to be every other day)
