Braided hoses allow you remove the caliper when you want to do any maintenance requiring the removal of the caliper / disc.

Second that. Braided hose for me too, all the way from the calliper to the hardline poking it's head out of the suspension tower. No more rubber anywhere and I can take the caliper off the carrier and move it out of the way, without cracking the system open and rebleeding.

I have hardlines and just replaced the oem flexi. Was happy until recently when i tried to crack open the hardline at the caliper. Even though they have been looked after, the pipe just wanted to wind itself up, indicating some corrosion.

I am now deciding on either making a hardline myself, buying another RS2 pair for £30 or going the braided flexi-route. The braided flexis on the back from goodridge were one of mu best buys in hindsight. pedal feel came up another level so there is a definate benefit in moving from rubber.

I have hard lines and am replacing them with VAG Parts braided hoses as removing the calliper is a real PITA with the hard lines.

braided seems the way ahead, thought the braided hoses from vag parts were just for use with the hardlines?

            Jas,

Did you get your hoses made up? what ends did you get? Banjo straight etc?

            cheers

I did yes, but they were done for me by a user who doesn't frequent these forums anymore, so am unsure as to the exact length. I should be able to find out given a day or two.
One end is a 10mm female, that goes onto the hardline coming through the strut tower, the other an offset banjo.

These were fitted around April 2005, so nearly three years and not a single issue.

Does that banjo allow the use of he original porsche fitting in the side for the caliper rather than a hard line fitting straight in?

Hardline will be really cheap to make up compared to flexi if you have or know somebody with a flare tool, I would expect flexi to be more practical for reasons above.

How do braided flexi lines last long term in comparison to hard lines?

Not to fussed over cost i have 30 or so S.S fittings from Aeroquip in -3An (£20-£30 Each) to build my brake system up with. The braied stuff is awesome! It will last just as long as copper lines and is alot stronger.

Cheers James, better go get them back out the parts bin then, might come in handy one day.

Cost was not directed at you , that brake system sounds nice but £, not an area to skimp any any car far less what your brakes will be stopping.

The attached drawing shows fittings which will work on an S2 with 996 calipers.

I used this as the basis to get one piece lines made up which had the connector at the top left of drawing at one end and the 90 deg connector at bottom right at the other end of the line. The overall length of the line I used was 800mm.

These went from the body to caliper replacing the short section of hard line fixed to the strut but need some suitable brackets made up to fix the line to the strut and might be worth incorporating rubber sleeves on the lines to go into these brackets.
